Meet Angelica Longoria of Hot Mess to Impress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Longoria.

Hi Angelica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated from Texas Tech in 2008 at the brink of the market crash. Because of the housing crisis, I landed a job in San Antonio in the mortgage industry. I worked my way up the corporate ladder for 13 years and was laid off out of the blue as part of a mass layoff in April 2022. Getting laid off feels defeating, even though you know it has nothing to do with your work ethic or skills. It has everything to do with the company cutting employees and them just trying to survive. That door was forced closed to open a new door. My time off work sparked this thought in me of what I really want to be doing with my life. I have always loved organizing and helping people get organized. I also enjoyed following Organizing Spaces by Kim, who later became my coach. I decided to invest in her beginner’s course to learn how to become a Professional Organizer. I learned how to start an organizing business and all the ins and outs of building my own business. I gained hands-on experience with family and friends and now take on new clients with various organization projects. I always wanted to pursue my endeavors, but the comfort of having a steady income always held me back. Sometimes a layoff or a closed door is a blessing in disguise. It allows you to try something new that requires more courage. Hopefully, this encourages someone to go after what they were scared to do.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
There have been struggles along the way. Deciding to pursue my dreams has required a significant change in my lifestyle. But honestly, it’s not anything I miss. I’m aware that starting a business requires sacrifices. There have also been mental struggles, like fear and doubt, but I have instilled positive habits that I rely on daily. I try or focus on releasing my fears and keep chasing my goals. And then there’s been struggles with learning everything about running a small business, running social media, and adjusting my prices as I gain more experience. It’s been a whirlwind but very rewarding. Not only am I doing what I love, but I am helping other women and families alleviate stress from their mess.

We’ve been impressed with Hot Mess to Impress, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
I believe getting organized is one of the best forms of self-care. At Hot Mess to Impress, I am dedicated to helping busy people organize their spaces by creating functional and easy-to-maintain solutions. I specialize in organizing pantries and kitchens, but I can organize just about any space in your home or business. When your space is chaotic, your mind can feel chaotic. My goal is to bring peace to your space and create a “home” for everything, which sometimes involves purging and adding an organizational product that works for the space. I understand how much vulnerability it takes clients to reach out and allow me into their spaces. But this is a judgment-free zone. Life can get busy and messy, but that is where the systems and routines come in.

Are any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I follow many talented organizers on Instagram that inspire me. Still, my coach, Organizing Spaces by Kim, is my go-to for product recommendations, design, and making organization and life fun! I also subscribe to a monthly publication that provides the latest organizer news, updates, and strategies which can be found on Order and Company’s Instagram. Initially, I binged YouTube Videos and learned much from I Speak Organized. She also has a Facebook group community that has been very helpful. My most frequently used apps are Canva, Lightroom, and Cricut Design Space. My favorite podcasts to keep me motivated is EmpowerHer, Motivation Babe with Hillary Cortez, and Organize with Grace. I would say my favorite resource has been in-person networking. I have met some amazing women in the community who are like-minded and have provided so much support and resources.
