Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Michel
Hi Andy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began taking content creation seriously this year, but my passion for creativity has been a constant throughout my life. While working in law and pursuing my education, I was always drawn to photography, film, radio, and television. These were my outlets for self-expression, though I spent much of that time behind the camera rather than in front of it. The stress and burnout from working in law, coupled with not fueling my creativity, made me realize how vital it was to embrace my creative side.
As a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I’ve always valued safe and inclusive spaces. In 2018, I found that sense of belonging through playing sand volleyball and joining Diablos Outsports Association. Fast forward to October 2023, when I was honored to be appointed to the Board of Diablos Outsports as the Director of Digital Marketing and Social Media. This role allows me to merge my passion for content creation with my commitment to fostering inclusivity, all while championing our motto: “PlayProud.”
Navigating the new digital age and the ever-evolving landscape of social media has been both challenging and exhilarating. The media world is constantly changing, and staying ahead of trends while adapting to new platforms is crucial. My goal is to raise awareness about Diablos Outsports and collaborate with brands that genuinely support our community. I strive to create spaces where everyone feels welcome, whether through my work with Diablos Outsports or my personal journey as a digital creator with @thevirgoandy. We’re here, we’re proud, and we’re not going anywhere. I’m excited to continue building a community that celebrates and uplifts everyone.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to where I am today has definitely been anything but smooth. There have been constant detours and moments when giving up seemed like the easiest option. However, I’ve learned that perseverance through those tough times brings rewards. Content creation is no joke—it’s hard work. From planning, filming, and editing to writing and strategizing, it feels like a full-time job. Balancing creativity with consistency is a real challenge.
On top of that, my role with Diablos Outsports Association is entirely volunteer-based; we do not receive payment for our work. It requires significant effort to keep our organization running smoothly. We face unique challenges in the realm of social media and digital marketing. The landscape is constantly changing, and staying ahead requires continuous learning and adaptation. In today’s digital age, mastering new skills and utilizing AI is essential for success. I am constantly evolving to keep up with these advancements, ensuring that our approach remains innovative and effective.
As the LGBTQ+ community grows, so does the need for resources to create and maintain a safe and inclusive space. Finding ways to ensure that our environment remains genuinely accepting and cannot be taken away from us is an ongoing battle. My hope is that, in the future, Diablos Outsports can develop a one-of-a-kind sports park or complex that serves not only the LGBTQ+ community but also all residents of San Antonio. That would be a significant step forward in fostering true inclusivity and providing a space where everyone feels welcome.

I specialize in digital marketing, social media management, and content creation, with a focus on storytelling and community engagement. I’m passionate about blending creativity with strategy, whether it’s crafting content for my personal brand @thevirgoandy or promoting inclusivity and awareness for Diablos Outsports Association, where I serve as the Director of Digital Marketing and Social Media. I work to bring visibility to our LGBTQ+ sports community and create partnerships with brands that embrace diversity.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to create content that not only looks great but also has a meaningful impact. I aim to make a difference by collaborating with brands that support inclusivity and by promoting safe spaces for all, especially within the LGBTQ+ community. Seeing the positive response from both my audience and the community has been incredibly rewarding.
What sets me apart is my authenticity. I strive to be real with my audience, blending my personal experiences with my professional work. I don’t just create content for the sake of it—I focus on building a community and advocating for causes I truly believe in. Whether through my personal journey as a digital creator or my work with Diablos Outsports, I aim to inspire others to embrace their uniqueness and live authentically.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is the incredible support I receive from my husband, Gabino, along with my family and friends. They’ve always been my biggest cheerleaders, pushing me forward even when times get tough. Their unwavering belief in me gives me the confidence to chase my passions and live boldly.
Spending quality time with Gabino and our two pups, Querida and Papi, fills my life with so much joy. Whether we’re relaxing at home or out exploring new adventures, those moments together are truly priceless.
And of course, I’m obsessed with spooky season and everything pumpkin spice! Embracing the cozy fall vibes makes this time of year extra special.
