Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Tegg.
Hi Alicia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Art has always been a part of my life, but it didn’t kick into high gear until our move to Brenham. I fell in love with the landscape and all it encompasses. Opening my working studio was a fluke, but it has been the perfect solution to creating and sharing my love of painting. Commissions are a big part of my portfolio; as much as I prefer an original creation walking out the door, nothing beats the emotion of a client when they see their homestead, farm, or ranch reproduced into a work of art. Texas is a vast and diverse state; there’s no lack of inspiration, whether it’s the mountains out west, the rolling hills of Washington County, or the wild coast of Matagorda. Brenham is more than just Ice cream and bluebonnets. Along with its beautiful countryside is a thriving historic downtown scene. So if you’re in the area or looking for a road trip, stop by and say Hi.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes! It has been relatively smooth. I opened the doors and have thrived ever since. Keeping up with technology has been my only roadblock, but I am stumbling through it successfully.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Once the frustrations of establishing style passed, I settled into a shut-up and painted frame of mind. It just came, but not without a lot of paint and canvas. I’m still learning and yearning for that “perfect” painting, but the process has been so rewarding I don’t worry myself that often. When I opened my studio on the main drag downtown, it was the only one around, to my knowledge. A storefront where the artist is creating is a win-win for patrons and artists alike—folks like buying art from the artist direct. Since opening my studio, I have seen other artists do the same, and I’d love to see more artisans do the same.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
Art has been around for centuries. It’s not in or out of fashion but has grown and become more diverse; I don’t think anyone will tire of it soon.
