Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Rincon
Hi Alexis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My cake decorating story began back in 2020, when businesses closed down due to Covid, I was out a job and began working at Walmart. I started out just as a stocker but one day their cake decorator decided to move away and they needed someone to jump in and fill the job. I volunteered because cake decorating had always been a dream job of mine, I went to college for fine arts and have always been interested in being creative in many different ways. Because I had to jump into the job I had to learn things very fast, but I had fun and became very passionate about it. I wanted to learn more and dive even deeper into the bakery business, At the end of 2023 I said my goodbyes to Walmart and started 2024 working at a really nice bakery in Austin, Tx. Unfortunately for me this dream job did not last very long. I was broken hearted but I wasn’t ready to give up! Finding another bakery job that was going to support me became a little difficult. With the motivation of family, friends, and my therapist I decided to try and start my own at home bakery. Since the beginning my fiancé has been right by my side helping my business making recipes and baking so many yummy sweets. He’s been my backbone as I’ve learned more about running a business and the presentation of our work. We are now coming into finishing our first year in business and it has really been a dream come true!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our business seems to be going on a smooth incline, which is actually really amazing to think about. Unfortunately some of the struggles have been more related to my negative thoughts. As a first year business owner the hardest part is reminding yourself this is only the beginning. Days will be slow, and motivating myself to work from home has also been a new experience. I had to learn to be more organized, have a schedule, and build a routine because I am my own boss now. Nothing is going to get done if I’m not the one doing it! Balancing between time at work and living your life can get tangled up a lot when you are working from home.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Caked Up we obviously specialize in all forms of cakes. We love making cakes, cupcakes, and cookie cakes! My fiancé has also really gotten into making pound cakes. They are absolutely delicious! I am proud that with our brand we have been able have fun and be ourselves. Our brand name is a fun joke not only about our product but also relates to girls with big hips, like myself. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and we enjoy people who are the same and can have a laugh with us.
