Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Hubbard.
Hi Abby, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
While I was living in Oklahoma right out of college, a friend invited me to go to a “fun new workout class with her.” I have never been one who associated the word “fun” with working out, so I reluctantly accepted her invitation. Much to my surprise, the workout WAS fun, and I did enjoy it! That is when I became a bungee workout regular.
I gradually moved from a one-time-a-week bungee-goer to purchasing an unlimited membership and going 5-6 times a week. I had finally found a type of exercise I enjoyed, and I was pleasantly surprised by the results I was seeing. Inches and pounds were coming off, but most of all I was enjoying myself and having fun. I found a community of people and seeing them almost every day made it more than just a workout.
While I loved my life in Oklahoma, I did miss my family. I am originally from Texas and all of my family was still here. My mom, an elementary school principal in San Antonio, came to visit me and I took her to try out a bungee class. She immediately loved it and said that was the first time she ever enjoyed burpees.
That was when we started looking and realized there were very limited bungee fitness options in Texas. She made a comment about wanting to open a studio, but not having the time to run it on her own. That is when the idea of “Boost Bungee Fitness” first entered our thoughts (secretly I think that was my mom’s way of enticing me to move back to Texas).
We spoke to my grandparents and they were also intrigued by the concept. After several planning meetings we found financing, but we had a very hard time finding a location. After months of looking, we discovered our current space and knew it was perfect.
It did take us a little while to make sure the engineering was safe and we were up to insurance standards, but we finally opened our doors at half-capacity in February and had our Grand Opening on April 30. Today, we are open at full capacity and offer our leveled bungee classes multiple times a day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The first obstacle we faced was funding. Opening any type of small business can be expensive, but a bungee studio was especially costly.
Not only did we have to purchase all of the equipment, but we also had to have structural engineers come out to reinforce each bungee station to make sure it was safe and up to insurance standards. Finding the engineer was difficult, and then getting on their schedule was also difficult. We were already into our lease at this point, so we knew time was money.
Another obstacle we have faced is getting the word out. Since most people are not familiar with bungee fitness, they really need to see it and experience it to understand what it is about. For someone who has never seen or heard about it, it can look somewhat intimidating with harnesses hanging from the ceiling.
You really need to get hooked up two or three times to start feeling the benefits and realize what a great high-intensity/low-impact workout it really is.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a fitness studio that specializes in low-impact/high-intensity workouts for ages 16 and up.
The bungee cords themselves absorb the impact themselves rather than your joints. We serve clients who come in and are already in top athletic shape, those who come in wanting to start their fitness journey, and those who have weak joints due to age, injury, or other factors.
We offer individual class passes, a range of class pass packages, unlimited monthly passes, and even a private class/party option for up to 7 guests. We can also rent our stations out to physical therapists who would like to use them for their patients’ rehab or physical therapy sessions.
The first time my mom went to a class, there were two older women who had a difficult time walking unassisted, but they were able to get into the bungee harness and do squats to work out their muscles while avoiding impact on their joints.
As a brand, we are most proud of our positive environment. We never want someone to walk through our doors and feel overwhelmed or judged. We want people to come in as they are, in whatever stage of their fitness journey they’re in, and enjoy a workout with us!
How do you define success?
Success for Boost Bungee Fitness means we are helping individuals meet their fitness goals by boosting their confidence, boosting their health, and boosting their fitness.
We hope that also means operating at full capacity the majority of the time and watching people have fun and build a community in our studio.

I just recently attended a private session on Saturday with a few friends and it was amazing! My first time, but I really enjoyed it. Abby is a wonderful instructor and she really made us all feel comfortable for our first time trying it out.
