Life & Work with Tina Worcester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Worcester.

Hi Tina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It’s a long story so I will be as quick as possible and you can edit as you’d like: I grew up in a trailer park in Laredo, TX. Life was not easy, in fact, we grew up so poor we had roaches everywhere. I vowed that I never wanted to live like this for the rest of my life. So I worked hard in school, for as long as I can remember.

I also started working at Mcdonald’s at 16 years old. By the time I graduated high school, I graduated with so many honors and achievements that I qualified for a couple of college grants. Together with grants and the money I was making working part-time at the mall, I was able to go to Texas A&M and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a Concentration in Marketing.

I worked for a couple of years as the Brand Manager for Anhueser Busch before deciding to move to San Antonio for a better opportunity. This is where my career in dentistry began. I now work with Dr. Imam at My Smile Artist as his Senior Administrative Coordinator.

I married a wonderful amazing man, Jesse. We bought a beautiful 2-story house and had a beautiful baby boy last April who just turned 1. The fact that I can provide all of these things for my child that I never had growing up is my biggest accomplishment.

I vowed that I would never live like that, and I succeeded through poverty, being a woman in a male-dominant field, and even through a pandemic. I still have many more goals and I’m only 32. I hope my story can inspire other women to keep going strong.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Coming from a very low-income family and having to work while going to school… took me 7 years to get my bachelor’s degree because of having to work.

I had various health issues, including a tumor on my left ovary that I had to have surgically removed and kidney failure due to E-coli.

After moving up in the dental field, and gaining success, we were hit with a pandemic, and both my husband and I were laid off

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the Senior Administrative Coordinator at My Smile Artist. I do billing, insurance, payroll, inventory, event planning, scheduling, etc.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m a singer. I used to be the lead singer of Broken Vision. After moving to SA, I had an agent that would find local gigs for me. Things took a turn after the pandemic but I still sing every chance I get.
