Life & Work with Succubus of Los Angeles. CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Succubus.

Hi Succubus, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story begins all the way in Rahway, New Jersey where Toni Hemmingway was born (way before Succubus). I am a twenty-six year old black transgender artist. My mediums range from DJing, being a a recording artist, modeling, creative direction and queer activism to name a few. I began my creative journey by getting involved in musical theatre around the age of twelve and the rest is history.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
So I have been working as a creative full time for about eight years bow so I have definitely run into a lot of challenges and lessons. In the entertainment industry and especially in Los Angeles people will want you to be everything but yourself which was a huge challenge moving out here at nineteen. But I also learned a lot of lessons from that alone. A few lessons that will always stay constant for myself would be to know yourself, know your boundaries and be mindful about who you choose to give your energy to.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
For the time being I am focusing on my work as a DJ, recording artist, music producer and creative director. I am definitely known for being the hood punk b**** that I am, who is always going to put on an amazing performance, have beautiful energy and be a baddie all at the same time. I am most proud of DJing the Jean Paul Gaultier first ever west cost pride event. Along side Ty Sunderland and the House of Avalon.
What sets me apart from others is I am always authentically my black, alternate , trans self, I know who I am and I am amazing at what I do. Period.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I learned a lot of lessons from that alone. A few lessons that will always stay constant for myself would be to know yourself, know your boundaries & be mindful about who you choose to give your energy to.
