Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Arroyo.
Hi Robert, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up I was always hands on with cars and trucks because I worked at a family shop when I was younger. My uncle JC gave me the opportunity to work for him to keep me off the streets and out of trouble. I learned so much there, and eventually it became a hobby of mine to work on my vehicles. Lowered cars and trucks is what I was always into. The lower the better. I learned a lot on fixing my own cars to my style. And when I finally lowered my 06’ Chevy Silverado on my own, homies noticed & that led to doing there trucks and word got out and more opportunities came up. Before you know it , it became my side hustle & “Perro Drops” began. It’s been 5years since lowering and fabricating trucks for the homies and truck community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The struggle was There’s no guidelines or rules to customizing your vehicle, and there’s a lot of math and geometry involved and a lot of people will gate keep that information. So it pushed me to do my own homework which included reading a lot of forums, build wright ups and diving up old information. And a lot of trial and error on my own projects.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I modify lowered trucks which includes a lot of fabrication on the frame itself and alot of custom build parts that I make on my own and some off the shelf parts to provide the customer what there desired ride height.
I’m known for cleaning up other people’s mess when notches are not welded up right and a frame cracks , I’m the guy who will cut it all out to put a new one and welded up right. And I’m also known for adding spider web gusset’s.
A project of mine, “La mandilona” was one of the projects that made it to a big Texas Truck Show called Bandas Y Trocas, which got alot of attention in truck community for being so low/functional on such a big wheel.
What sets me apart is I’m tapped in with the culture and my people. I show every one the same level of respect that I want to be shown and being honest about my work.
