Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Carrillo.
Hi Rachel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Hi, my name is Rachel Carrillo. 33 years old. Born & raised in the west side of San Antonio. Grew up in the beauty industry. Raised by a single mother who has been a hairstylist for 45 years & still going strong. She is my inspiration along with my sis who is also a hairstylist both strong independent women. I was in hospitality prior to Covid when I got laid off from the hotel. I began receiving unemployment and with the stimulus checks, what better way to invest in myself and my career? I was working part-time doing Covid testing & thought this cannot be my life. I enrolled in Boss Beauty Makeup Academy.
Kat reached out to me on Instagram offering me a tour of their facility. I had nothing to lose during the tour I signed up for classes. It was the best decision I made! My instructor was also an esthetician. I had no idea that would be my next goal, at the time she told me there was no way I can work full time & go to esthetician school. But being the strong-willed woman I am I signed myself up and worked overnight at a hotel. I went to school in the evenings and work after. The school was my first priority. After making short & long-term goals for myself I can say I am finally doing it—a licensed esthetician. Certified makeup artist & certified eyelash technician… Happy and doing what I love.
I wake up every day excited to work. I feel at peace. I am blessed and with my family and friends by my side I know I can accomplish anything. I set my mind to.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some struggles I encountered throughout this journey…. I had to pay out of pocket after grants and loans monthly.
When I didn’t think I could do it I found a way! I started selling false eyelashes everywhere & anywhere to make extra money. I work a full-time job at a hotel & now a hotel spa, After work, My small business & I also do Lyft to pay bills and to be able to invest in my small business. I hustle every day to get where I wanna be.

I am a licensed Esthetician & certified professional makeup artist. I do makeup, facials, waxing, lash lifts, eyelash & eyebrow tinting. Weddings, Quinceañeras, sweet 16’s, birthday parties & or any special occasion! I also sell False Lashes & accessories.
What are your plans for the future?
My future… Now that I have my dream job. I would love to fall in love and start a family.
