Today we’d like to introduce you to Petya Petkova.
Hi Petya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m the head artist of Petya‘s World and I create hand made jewelry and accessories inspired by nature with real flowers and plants.
I was born and grew up in Bulgaria, a little country in Eastern Europe. I spent my childhood in nature and spent every vacation with my grandma who shared with me the magic of the flowers, trees and herbs. I enjoyed that her garden was planted with different flowers every season.
After high school, I moved to Germany and I fell in love with it. I spent almost 20 years there. I finished there my Master of Arts. In Germany I met my husband and 3 years later we got married. There I created different jewelry for my friends. My husband got a new job in the States and we had to leave Germany.
I never imagined living in the USA, but life is full of surprises. I live now in San Antonio, Texas with my husband, my daughter and my dog Troy. I enjoy the Texas lifestyle. Texas is the land of the wildflowers which inspires me to develop more my creativity and make my jewelry. One of my first jewelry I made here was with real Texas Bluebonnets, that are so beautiful and unique. I decided to open my Etsy shop and share with everyone my passion for jewelry and flowers.
Last year I started to work on the creation on my second brand SoapLoveFlowers, because I adore flowers and their scents. My new brand is specialized in soap flower bouquet arrangements and artisan soap bars. My soap flowers are fragrant with essential oils that match the natural scent of the flowers. I also work with each customer individually and help them create their own unique flower display that represents their style.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t smooth road, I experienced culture shock when I moved here. Life in Europe is completely different. Creating the jewelry helped me to adapt to my new journey.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I capture real flowers in epoxy resin and turn them in wearable art. I specialize in creating custom jewelry made with flowers from wedding bouquets, memorial flowers and other special occasions. What I’m proud of and what differentiated me from others is that I was the first handmade Jeweler to make and sell Jewelry with Texas Bluebonnet on Etsy. My other brand “SoapLoveFlowers” also specializes in custom flower arrangements.
Any big plans?
My plans for the future including to expand my brands into more gift and spa shops. In addition, I’m working on a project that will include items from my both brands – jewelry and flower soaps in a special gift box.
