Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Gorman.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Nina Gorman: From International Stages to the Heart of Schulenburg
For Nina Gorman, dance has always been more than movement—it has been a lifelong language, spoken across countries, cultures, and communities.
Born and raised in Russia, Nina began her formal dance education at the prestigious Perm Institute of Culture, a region known for its deep classical ballet tradition. Her training opened doors to international performances, allowing her to experience dance as both an art form and a bridge between people around the world.
Fifteen years ago, Nina brought that global experience to the United States, settling in Houston. There, she continued teaching, choreographing, and sharing her passion for dance—until life took an unexpected turn. After Hurricane Harvey flooded her home, Nina was forced to relocate. What began as a difficult chapter soon became a transformative one.
Finding Home—and Building One for Others
Nina relocated to Schulenburg, Texas, where she quickly fell in love with the close-knit community. Recognizing a deep need for arts and movement education in the area, she did what she has always done best—she built something meaningful.
That vision became On Pointe Studio, a much-needed creative space for children and adults alike. More than a dance studio, it is a place where discipline meets joy, and where artistry is nurtured alongside confidence, strength, and character.
Excellence Without Exclusion
On Pointe Studio is unique in its balance of high-level competitive training and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. The studio’s On Pointe Elite Team has earned recognition on the national stage, winning a national dance competition—a testament to Nina’s rigorous training, artistic vision, and commitment to excellence.
At the same time, Nina remains deeply committed to accessibility in the arts. On Pointe proudly welcomes recreational dancers—students who simply want to move, express themselves, and dance for the joy of it. Whether a dancer dreams of competition or just loves being in the studio, there is a place for them at On Pointe.
“Not every dancer wants trophies,” Nina says. “Some want confidence, friendship, and happiness—and that matters just as much.”
More Than Dance
Expanding her vision beyond dance, Nina has grown On Pointe Studio into a well-rounded movement center. In addition to ballet and performance training, the studio offers taekwondo classes, helping students develop discipline, focus, and self-confidence, as well as fitness classes for adults who want to stay strong, active, and connected in a supportive environment.
This blend of artistic and physical training reflects Nina’s belief that movement—in all its forms—has the power to transform lives.
Performances That Inspire
From elegant seasonal showcases to beloved productions like The Nutcracker, On Pointe Studio’s events have become highlights of the local arts calendar. Each performance reflects Nina’s international background and storytelling sensibility, taking audiences on journeys that blend classical tradition with modern energy.
Beyond performances, the studio also hosts workshops, grading days, and community events that strengthen bonds between dancers, families, and the wider Schulenburg community.
A Lasting Impact
Today, Nina Gorman stands as a powerful example of resilience, artistry, and vision. From her early years in Russia to international stages, from Houston to Schulenburg, her journey has shaped a studio that does more than teach dance—it builds confidence, discipline, and community.
Through On Pointe Studio, Nina continues to give back what movement has given her: strength, beauty, balance, and a sense of belonging.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building a strong team in a small town was not easy. With a limited population and fewer resources, every step required patience, perseverance, and belief in the vision. Over time, that effort paid off. Today, Nina is deeply proud of the dedicated teachers who make On Pointe Studio what it is—and especially proud of those who began their journey as students in the studio and as instructors, giving back to the same community that helped shape them.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
A strong foundation in classical ballet sets On Pointe Studio apart. Rooted in traditional ballet education, the studio emphasizes proper technique, musicality, and discipline.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
