Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicci Markos.
Hi Nicci, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been a nurse for many, many years and in a high stress position for most of them. During that time, I learned to design wedding florals out of silk and sold them all over the US as a form of “therapy” to relieve the chaos of the day. It worked great but I never got to meet my brides and their families. About a year and a half ago, I decided to retire from nursing and pursue my dream of opening an event center where I could get involved with the families and share in the joy of these celebrations! So, Moss Rose Event Center was born in July of 2024 and we have been steadily getting busier every month! We do baby showers a lot which has been so much fun! We also do weddings, birthday parties, graduation parties, gender reveals and any celebration with a maximum guest count of 70. It is a true joy to be a part of!!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a big learning curve for me since it was way out of my comfort zone. I have had to learn all about storage and all types of supplies needed for the business. Learning how to efficiently market has also been stressful. It is crazy expensive.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a master’s prepared registered nurse. I was a Labor and Delivery nurse for many years before I went into management, never to return to bedside nursing. I have been a Chief Nursing Officer in both the acute care setting and Long Term Care and spent a few years teaching nursing, which I truly loved. In the later part of my career, I transitioned into nursing informatics (electronic health records and computer programs used by nurses) and eventually wrote my own job description for the new position of Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO) within the largest healthcare company in the US-HCA-for which I worked 16 years! I was the very first CNIO in the company and now every division has one. I am extremely proud of that accomplishment.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Taking a risk quitting my job and opening an event center was really big for me!!! I am not normally a risk taker but this one was worth it. I am very happy I took the chance. and so far, it was a good decision for me!
Opening my business, I had one goal: I wanted to be a “one-stop-shop” for your celebration needs. I do it all for one price. All you have to do as a customer is show up. I do all the planning, ordering, setting up and cleaning. No stress and very easy. I also pay attention to the details and design a beautiful space to celebrate in. Exceeding my customers goals and expectations is what I strive for!

- Wedding package for up to 50 guests is all-inclusive with cake, flowers, DJ, Photographer, Officiant, on-site consultant and much more-$4000
- Wedding package for up to 70 guests is all the above $4500
