Life & Work with Mariam Huizar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariam Huizar.

Hi Mariam, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved writing and I have always loved food! I had a very active affair with Yelp for years, writing restaurant reviews and getting a lot of encouragement to do more of it! A couple of years ago, while in between jobs, my sister encouraged me to create a foodie Instagram account where I could get all my “food feelings” out. The account was just for fun, but it quickly grew into something I never imagined it would or could. Before long, I was making videos where I would rant, praise, and commiserate with other foodies and snack fans worldwide!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like everyone living through these crazy times, the pandemic and life took a toll on me. I realized, pretty quickly, though, that my daily food polls were a necessity for my followers. I started receiving DMs that my stories were missed and that they were sometimes the silver lining to tough days. It didn’t take long for me to see that I also needed those stories and posts. If I could put a smile on someone’s face who had nothing else to smile about, then that put a smile on my face too.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I like to think of SnackAntonio as my alter ego. She lives in a world where the hardest decision is choosing between the rivals dueling it out on her daily food polls—a sloppy, gooey Monte Cristo or a savory pesto-slathered chicken and cheese panini! She is a part of me, but she is the part that doesn’t worry about making a living or taking the car for the routine oil changes. SnackAntonio’s work is bringing the latest snack and food news to her friends on Instagram. She specializes in sweet, spicy, savory, and every junk-foodie thing in between!

What are your plans for the future?
I hope to continue being a resting place for folks who are looking for a smile or a laugh. Food is something we all share in common, and I love helping people find that new snack they absolutely and unequivocally cannot live without. Occasionally someone will rabidly disagree with me, but that’s fun too! I have found so many great foods because someone else in the snack community has found them first. There’s room for every opinion and every spin on the same snacks! What could be greater than that?
