Today we’d like to introduce you to Marecus Goodloe.
Hi Marecus; we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started dealing with youth sports in 2006 back in my hometown, Tuscumbia, AL. My grandfather started a youth organization in the 1960s, and I volunteered there before moving to San Antonio. When I moved here I got involved with a few youth organizations, learned a lot, and met many great people. In 2013 I accidentally ended up on a reality tv show called Friday Night Tykes, and after watching myself on the show it motivated me to try and make change within myself and others. It’s been so many horrible things happening in youth sports so I decided to put together a business and a movement driven by the goal of giving youth sports back to our youth. It’s my purpose and my business’s purpose to achieve just that. The name Fraternity & Sorority Athletics speaks just for what it defines. Brotherhood and Sisterhood throughout the city, regardless of what team or organization you’re a part of.
Let’s dig deeper into the story – has it been an easy path, and if not, what challenges have you overcome?
It’s harder than you would think it would be. Typically you would want to believe that everyone would admire and want to be a part of something like this. But that’s not always the case. The biggest struggle is the struggle within yourself. The not giving up part. It’s definitely a struggle trying to get others to see or understand your vision. But staying focused on the task at hand and remembering only you can truly understand your vision will help you overcome the trying times. 4:13 is what I live by knowing through Christ who strengthens me I can accomplish anything.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
The fraternity athletics is a youth sports business. We provide several youth sports programs. We offer athletic training & athletic apparel. We will also provide academic tutoring and mentorship programs called the impact program that’s offered by one of our partners Pastor Tyronne McCreary. ACT & SAT prep. We will also provide youth Bible study groups and sessions. The Fraternity Athletics team which consist of myself, Robert RL Martin,Tyronne McCreary, Mike Morris, Cecilia Ramirez & Stephanie Escalera will host a variety of events throughout the city.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love best about our city is the hospitality and love most of us give here. I also love the work ethic in our youth. The kids in our city have a different type of drive and ambition from what I’ve experienced from other kids. Outside of the traffic haha what I like least in our city is our division as adults. I would like for us to build strong bonds, positive family based relationships and bring all of our youth together and form brotherhoods/sisterhoods within ourselves and our children. Meaning working together rather than against each other. Imagine how powerful that would make our city.
