Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyn-Z Andrews.
Hi Lyn-Z, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and my journey has been shaped by resilience, hard work, and a passion for helping others. I started in entertainment more than 26 years ago as a drag performer and comedian, eventually creating my own company, Lyn-Z Andrews Entertainment.
Over time, I became involved in advocacy and public service. Today, I am proud to be the first openly transgender commissioner on the San Antonio Arts Commission, the Texas LGBTQIA+ Director of Policy and Advocacy for Josey Garcia, a board member of the San Antonio AIDS Foundation, and the first transgender woman Tejano radio personality.
My goal has always been to use my voice and platform to create visibility, bring people together, and make a positive impact in my community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. As a transgender woman, I have faced discrimination, rejection, and people who tried to overlook or dismiss me. There have been times when I was told certain opportunities were not meant for someone like me, and even today there are challenges that come with being visible in both entertainment and public service.
However, those struggles taught me resilience. Instead of letting obstacles stop me, I used them as motivation to work harder and open doors for others. Every challenge has helped shape who I am today, and it makes the accomplishments even more meaningful because I know how much work it took to get here.

I am an entertainer, producer, advocate, and community leader. I own Lyn-Z Andrews Entertainment, where I produce live events, comedy shows, and drag performances throughout San Antonio.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice is to get involved, show up, and be consistent. In the entertainment industry, relationships matter. Many of the opportunities I’ve had came from meeting people, staying connected, and building a reputation for being reliable and professional.
What worked for me was attending events, supporting other performers and businesses, and not being afraid to introduce myself. Over time, those connections helped me grow Lyn-Z Andrews Entertainment and create opportunities as a producer, host, comedian, and entertainer.
A good mentor can help guide you, but don’t wait for one to find you. Keep learning, work hard, and build genuine relationships. You never know which connection could lead to your next big opportunity.
