Life & Work with Josh Guerrero of Far North Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Guerrero

Hi Josh, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m from a small town in rural Michigan. During my sophomore year in high school, I saw the planes crash into the World Trade Center. It was then when I knew that I wanted to join the military. And just three weeks after I walked across the stage at high school graduation. I was on a plane to San Diego to start Marine Corps boot camp. After four years of service, I went on to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. This led me to The Gambia in West Africa. Where I spent two years serving as a Peace Corps education volunteer. Living among a culture that was entirely different from my own got me very interested in anthropology. And not long after I returned home from The Gambia. I moved to England to start graduate school. Eventually earning my Master’s degree in Field Archaeology from the University of York. After graduating and returning home to the US. I started my career as a professional archaeologist and have conducted fieldwork in 17 states over the past six years. Now I live in San Antonio and work almost exclusively in Texas. All while working to build my own adventure and self-development brand, All-Around Adventure.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has not been easy in the slightest! Marine Corps boot camp was three months of intense physical and mental training. My drill instructors broke me down and built me back up to forge me into a United States Marine. Living in The Gambia was hard because I had to adjust to not having many of the amenities that I had while living in the states. I had no electricity or running water in my house. And my toilet was a deep hole that was dug into the ground. I also had to endure illnesses and infections without having access to proper medical facilities. Pursuing my degrees also came with their own set of challenges and sacrifices. I wasn’t able to spent a lot of time with friends or family or go do other fun activities because I had to stay in to study for upcoming exams or write my dissertation. Hosting The All-Around Adventure Podcast takes a lot of work as well. I have to reach out to possible guests to arrange and conduct interviews. Along with editing audio and video, writing show notes, and creating promotional content for social media. And sometimes having to deal with the discouragement that comes if an episode doesn’t get very many downloads or views on YouTube.

While pursuing these various endeavors. I’ve learned that anything in life that’s worth having will seldomly be attained easily. If there is something that you really want. Be prepared to experience failures and setbacks while you work achieve it. During those moments you just have to keep moving forward. And as long as you keep moving forward, eventually you will reach your destination!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I created my brand, All-Around Adventure, as a way to add value to the world. It consists of a blog and podcast, though I focus mostly on the podcast. Which is simply titled, The All-Around Adventure Podcast. It’s a show where my guests and I share amazing tales from afar and the all-important life lessons that go along with them. I’ve been to many places and have achieved a lot throughout my life. Along with serving in the Marine Corps, the Peace Corps, and earning my degrees. I’ve also taken on several other challenges to test myself and see what I’m capable of. These include running the Marine Corps marathon, fighting in the cage as an MMA fighter, completing a Tough Mudder and Spartan Race, cycling 300 miles across The Gambia, hiking 1,200 miles across the state of Michigan, and running a 31-mile ultramarathon. Through All-Around Adventure, I share these stories and offer up my own tips, ideas, and insights on life. I’ve also been fortunate to connect with a vast array of incredible people who have come on as guests. I’ve welcomed elite special operations warriors, #1 New York Times bestselling authors, fellow archaeologists, adventurers, digital nomads, entrepreneurs, high performance athletes, and much more! And we’re having power conversations on the podcast in order to help our listeners level up in their lives!

Eventually I’d like to offer transformation coaching to my audience as a way to help people on a more personal level.

What matters most to you? Why?
Living life to the absolute fullest! Death comes for all of us eventually. And we only get one chance at life. There is no reset button. I don’t want to be on my death bed one day and having to look back on my life with regrets. I want to look back on my life and say… that was one heck of a ride!
