Life & Work with Hilda Luevano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilda Luevano.

Hi Hilda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
From a very young age, I was interested in everything manual, I liked to make bows for my hair, play with pieces of fabric or paper or decorate my school notebooks, I remember that I was looking for recipes from the youth magazines to bake cookies, after making them I packed them in bags that I decorated in a festive way to give them on Valentine’s Day to my teachers and friends.

I studied fashion design, even without completing my studies I got to give cutting and tailoring classes to a group of women housewives as part of a community program which fills me with satisfaction, this was at 17 years old, in my native Monterrey, México.

I got married and sometime later I came to live in San Antonio, I have three children, when my oldest son entered Middle School I enrolled as a volunteer in the bilingual program thinking of providing a little help with my skills, this is to this day one of the most satisfying things in my life, thanks to this I met many parents and educators with a great desire to support the community, seeking to provide tools that would allow us to help our children improve both in education and in the different problems of their development, from there the council of parents of the district emerged and the “Café con Charla” was formed. That were lunches in the district’s schools with diverse speakers, professionals from different backgrounds, writers or people from the community who could share important information on topics relevant to the community.

These were three wonderful years full of learning, beautiful experiences and great friendships that I keep to this day.

From that council, I retain the recognition received at the end of my cycle in the Harlandale district.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In my case, I am self-taught, on the go and I had to learn a lot, starting with the use of computer, design programs, software, techniques and whatever is required, more than being a problem is a challenge.

Time and money, I think are the obstacles that limit me, who doesn’t want the day to have more days to be a mom, housewife and creative, just have to do it at a different pace.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My taste for crafts and decoration led me to be the decorator of the family to organize the celebrations and celebrations on each special occasion, making myself from the invitations, to the smallest detail in each of our events, which excites me and continues to make me very happy.

In each project I put my heart, everything is done with love, I enjoy each process too much, for me there is no greater satisfaction than seeing the joy of those who receive my job, either as a client or family, because I love to give away! This is the way to express my affection to family, friends, or those around me.

In the world of crafts and crafts, the scrapbook and cutting plotter is one of my favorites, I also enjoy making cards, invitations, bags and everything that is papercraft.

As a therapy it is excellent, it helped me overcarry the stress of the pandemic and at the same time the illness of my husband who is fighting Cancer.

Crafts have left me with beautiful experiences such as sponsoring prestigious brands within the Scrapbook and Crafts such as Snapdragon Snippets, RINEA, Latina Crafter, Creative Fabrica, Abbondanza Fiesta among others and in the past winning some contests such as that of the ANSPAC association in Latin America.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
