Life & Work with Emily Ruiz of Spring Branch TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Ruiz.

Emily , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey to becoming an esthetician was anything but traditional.
I started my career in the fast-paced world of logistics—a demanding and high-stress environment that eventually impacted my health. After developing Bell’s Palsy, I knew something had to change. That health scare became my wake-up call.

In search of healing, I dove into skincare research and facial massage techniques, which not only helped me manage my symptoms but also ignited a deep passion within me. I discovered how powerful skincare could be—not just for the skin, but for the mind and body.

That passion led me to take a leap of faith. I left my job, enrolled in esthetician school, and eventually opened The Vanity Aesthetics, a space designed to be a calming sanctuary for others. My goal is simple: to help clients feel relaxed, cared for, and confident in their skin.

My favorite service to provide is a customized facial, especially for clients struggling with acne. Watching someone’s skin heal and their confidence grow is the most rewarding part of what I do.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has played a part in shaping the woman and business owner I am today.

When I first stepped away from my job in logistics of oil & gas, to follow my passion for esthetics, many people didn’t understand. I heard things like, “That’s just a hobby” or “You can’t make a career out of rubbing people’s faces.” It was disheartening, but I kept my faith in God and trusted that He placed this calling on my heart for a reason.

That health scare of being diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy was scary at the time, led me to discover my passion for skincare and holistic healing.

Starting over was humbling. Going back to school, learning a completely new industry, and launching The Vanity Aesthetics all came with moments of fear, self-doubt, and financial uncertainty.
I made the mistake of trusting the wrong people, some I even added to my team, thinking we shared the same vision. But over time, I realized they weren’t aligned with my goals or values. Letting go of those relationships was difficult, but necessary for my growth. It taught me to protect my peace, trust my instincts, and always put the heart of my business first.

But every obstacle reminded me why I chose this path in the first place: to help people feel seen, cared for, and confident in their own skin.

It’s been a journey of growth, faith, and resilience and while it hasn’t always been easy, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an esthetician, and what I truly love is making people feel beautiful, seen, and cared for.

At The Vanity Aesthetics, I specialize in customized facials and corrective skincare treatments, but to me, it’s about so much more than just skin. I’ve created a space where my clients, especially busy women and moms can slow down, breathe, and reconnect with themselves. So many of us forget to prioritize self-care, and I love being able to offer a moment of peace in the middle of their hectic lives.

One of the things I’m most proud of is how personal the experience is here. I’m not just focused on delivering results, but I genuinely care about every person who walks through my door. I treat my clients like friends and family. Whether it’s offering a listening ear, adding a thoughtful touch to their service, or simply holding space for them to relax. I try to go above and beyond in the little ways that matter.

I also offer more advanced, corrective treatments, but my goal is always to make them feel approachable and comforting and not cold or clinical. I believe you can have glowing, healthy skin and still feel completely relaxed during the process.

What sets me apart is my heart. I lead with kindness, generosity, and the belief that beauty begins with how you feel. I also love connecting with my community, hosting events, and creating opportunities to bring people together. Helping others feel seen and supported is at the core of everything I do.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’m incredibly grateful to have a mentor who’s been like an angel sent from above, my good friend Itxia Acevedo, DMSc, PA-C. I was introduced to her through another close friend, and from the moment we connected, she has been an incredible source of guidance, knowledge, and support. Itxia is truly a girls’ girl with a huge heart. She always goes above and beyond to help others and is a real go-getter. We share the same values and ambition, which has made our mentor-mentee relationship even more special and impactful for me.

When it comes to finding a mentor or building your network, community is key. For me, that means actively visiting and supporting local businesses, collaborating wherever possible, and always saying yes to networking events, even if I don’t know exactly what will come from them. You never know where or when you’ll meet someone who could change your path.

The most important thing is to stay open, be genuine, and keep showing up. Relationships grow from authentic connections, and those connections often lead to unexpected opportunities.
