Life & Work with Emily Lloyd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Lloyd.

Hi Emily, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a full-time military musician doing photography in my free time. I began practicing photography about three years ago and just fell in love with it! I live in San Antonio and I have a passion for photographing pets, families, artists, and love.

Whether it’s that brand new baby, an artist trying to further their career, a newly engaged couple, or a beloved pet (have I mentioned I’m a total dog person?), I’m all about creating and capturing beautiful moments to remember in images.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an active duty military member has definitely presented its challenges for me as a working photographer.

I joined the military last year (2021) and consequently had to start over on my photography journey. My husband and I came to San Antonio not knowing a single person, which meant I had no one to photograph for a while!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
First and foremost, I am a musician. I began my music career several years ago and have completed my bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in music.

I currently play flute in the United States Air Force Band of the West at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio; it is an amazing job. I get to make music, travel the world, and serve my country at the same time, which is a dream come true! You can find out more about me as a musician on www.therapeuticflutist.com.

Secondly, I am a photographer. I fell in love with photography a few years ago when I got a camera, started taking photos, and saw the resulting joy on the faces of those I got to photograph. It is a way that I can serve and love the people around me. But I would argue that I get the most joy out of anyone when I’m taking and editing photos!

My photography website is www.emilylloydphoto.com.

What are your plans for the future?
In the future, I see myself continuing a full career in the military, photographing in my free time, and eventually becoming a full-time photographer upon retirement. I am looking forward to continuing to pursue the arts– whether it be photography or music– for as long as I can.
