Today we’d like to introduce you to Ed Huerta
Hi Ed, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Like a lot of my colleagues, I became a DJ by chance. I never envisioned myself DJing at any level. However, in 2018, an opportunity to DJ a Salsa night presented itself to me. I had never played music prior to that date but I never shy away from a challenge. I bought the basic equipment I needed for the job and showed up! After the first event, I was hooked. I quickly bought the rest of the equipment I needed and started learning how to properly DJ any event. I started DJing an average of one event per week with some weeks having as many as three.
In 2019, I DJ’d my first wedding. I was nervous and felt slightly out of my element. However, I loved being part of such a special day in someone’s life. I was humbled by the fact that they entrusted me with such a big responsibility. To this day, that feeling still lives within me.
In the past few years, I have exclusively focused on Weddings & Quinceañeras. I have worked on my perfecting my skills as a DJ, MC, and Production Manager to ensure that I exceed my clients expectations. I focus on every detail from my setup, to the delivery of the special introductions and formalities, to my mixing skills including how effectively I read the room in order for me to play the music that my clients and their guests enjoy most.
I I love creating unforgettable experiences for my clients and their guests. Its immensely rewarding for me to be a part in creating such a beautiful celebration of love.
I currently cover San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi, Fredericksburg and all cities in between. I’m eagerly looking forward to what 2025 has in store for me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Thankfully, not many! Learning how to DJ is exponentially easier now than it was a few decades ago when we weren’t living in the current age of technology. I had a couple of colleagues teach me the basics of DJing and I availed myself of tutorials from reputable DJ schools. Thankfully, I learned fast and I became a proficient DJ rather quickly. The most important piece, however, is practice. Without practice, there is no progress. I’ve invested many hours honing my DJ, MC & audio management skills. Nonetheless, the learning process never ends as technology is continually advancing.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Weddings and Quinceañeras. I work with my clients to create an unforgettable experience for them and their guests. I do more than provide sound for the ceremony, cocktail, dinner and reception hours. I meticulously setup my sound equipment so that it complements the venue and the decorations. I work closely with the coordinator to ensure all the formalities are executed to perfection. I repeat the clients names ad nauseam so I don’t make mistakes and pronounce them perfectly throughout the night. I constantly monitor the guests likes and dislikes in order to play the music they enjoy the most. I do more than just DJ my clients special day, I become personally invested in it.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Do not buy cheap equipment. If you do, you will have to upgrade soon and spend twice as much. If DJing is what you have determined that you want to pursue, invest in professional equipment and lessons from the start.
