Life & Work with Chelsea Singh of San Antonio Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Singh.

Hi Chelsea, can you briefly walk us through your story.
Design has always been less of a choice and more of a calling for me — something wired into how my brain sees the world. As a little girl, I didn’t just play with my Barbie Dream House — I redesigned it.

I lived for the feeling of a space when it clicked — when it told a story, evoked a mood, made you feel something. That instinct never went away.

Now, with over 20 years of design experience across Austin and San Antonio — and projects spanning Texas, California, and New York — I bring that same early intuition to every space I touch.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning your own business is never a smooth road! Every project teaches you something new, especially when you’re navigating different client personalities, expectations, and communication styles. One of the biggest challenges is finding that balance between honoring a client’s vision and keeping the subcontractors aligned with the realities of budget, timelines, and craftsmanship. Designers sit in the middle—we translate dreams into structures, materials, and labor—and that means constantly bridging the gap between what someone imagines and what is actually possible.

There are moments where you’re advocating for the integrity of the design, moments where you’re mediating between trades, and moments where you’re gently guiding clients toward decisions that will serve them long-term. Every day requires adaptability, problem solving, and a calm confidence under pressure. When all those moving parts finally come together and the client walks into a finished space that feels like a true reflection of them, it reminds you why you do what you do.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in residential remodeling—particularly older homes, kitchens, and bathrooms—where thoughtful updates can completely transform the way a space supports daily living. My work is rooted in solving functional challenges. Whether it’s rethinking circulation, maximizing storage, or addressing long-standing inefficiencies, I make it my mission to ensure every concern a client has is resolved through both smart design and skilled craftsmanship.

What truly sets me apart is my client-first philosophy. I’m not driven by imposing my personal aesthetic; I’m driven by listening. I take the time to understand how my clients live, what frustrates them, and what they hope their home can become. Their needs shape the design direction, and my role is to translate those needs into a space that feels both beautifully considered and intuitively functional.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Patience, because the project never goes 100% according to plan. You can’t anticipate the challenges that arise during the construction process, that, and clients change their minds often.
