Today we’d like to introduce you to April DelaFuente.
April, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I took a photography class my senior year of high school. We mostly did the film. I just took the class for a required elective but I really enjoyed it. A year or two later, I was gifted a camera.
I mostly took images of plants and flowers. Then, I started taking photos of my niece and sister. A friend asked me to photograph her wedding and that’s where the business started. Over the years, I shot weddings, quinceañeras, family reunions, headshots, families, engagements, products, and even real estate photography.
After having my children, I’ve honed my specialty and that’s families and motherhood photography.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely been challenging trying to juggle the business and being a mother.
My sessions are always scheduled around sunset or sunrise. I don’t get to edit during the day like everyone else.
Editing only happens during nap time/bedtime but mostly bedtime. I will edit in the wee hours of the night. However, I’ve learned to give myself grace and take breaks/leave of absence when needed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a photographer based in El Paso, Texas.
I specialized in family and motherhood photography. I’m most proud of my clients who have stayed loyal to me over the years. What sets me apart from others is the unique approach to my editing. I see their images like a canvas.
Any big plans?
I’m more of the go-with-the-flow person but I would love to get into birth photography and eventually offer mentorships to other photographers.
