Life & Work with Angel Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Lee.

Hi Angel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been in the beauty industry for about 7 years, I’ve worked with brands such as Morphe, Becca Cosmetics Sephora, Ulta. I’d like to say I am an all around artist. Ever since I was little I always looked at the little things. I’m very detail-oriented. Before and afters to me have always been my favorite. My makeup inspiration came from movies growing up such as Purple Rain, The Fifth Element, magazines, etc. After high school, I took classes to become a professional MUA. And got my certification for Bridal Makeup Application. I freelance and offer travel Services. Once COVID hit. Makeup slowed down and I knew I needed to do more. I decided to get more education in the beauty industry and got my cosmetology license. I now specialize in fashion colors, balayage and am currently employed at Diesel BarberShop in New Braunfels Creekside Texas as a Barber. Which is where my artistry name “LeeTheBarber” was born. Cuts are so satisfying. I didn’t expect to fall so much in love with hair. As long as I am creating and making someone feel their best. That’s my dream job right there.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. But I mean who’s isn’t right? Without the roadblocks, there is no motivation to keep moving forward and push even harder. I lost my job while going to school full time. Shortly before I graduated cosmetology I lost my dad. It was one of my darkest times of my life. I think that we all deal with grief in our own ways and although he’s not in this lifetime with me anymore he’d want me to keep pushing forward. I prayed for him to send me butterflies or peacocks when he was near or trying to send me messages. On the day I graduated cosmetology, my teacher was showing me color inspiration for certain hair styles on a post board. There was a picture of a peacock right in the center.

On your journey, you’re going to have dark times and setbacks. But they’ll also transform you in beautiful ways. They make you stronger. They will help appreciate different pieces of your life in a way you never did before. The way the Universe works.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a painter, an MUA, a hair stylist and now a barber, I’d say I’m known for always wanting to learn something new in this industry. I wanted to learn to do it all, in both women and men. I HAVE to be in a creative environment. People who are artistic, they see art in all parts of life. We just get to pick which ones are our favorites. I currently specialize in Balayage, Fashion Colors, Editorial makeup as well as Bridal. On social media, I don’t just market myself as this but I truly enjoy spiritual practice and love to spread light on that part of my life. I’m also known for reminding others that we are all inspiring. And it doesn’t have to be just through art. Whether that’s through the way you make people laugh, the way you dress, the way you cook a good meal, the way your energy uplifts others just by talking about what you love, it’s inspiring. We all inspire each other and we tend to forget that we are all unique and more powerful than we know. I feel it’s my soul’s purpose not only as an artist but reminder we all get inspiration from somewhere 🤍

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Teamwork makes my heart full!!!! In the past few years working in SA, I’ve met some of the most amazing artists. I think the best way to support me as an artist is a collaboration. The more you work with new people and support other artists, the more inspired and growth you gain, you’ll always learn something new, meeting other artists. It’s my favorite. I gain most of my support through social media and bridal collaborations. My IG is @Angelee069
