Life & Work with Ale Torres of San Antonio, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ale Torres

Hi Ale, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Petále Haus Floral Design began as a dream inspired by my love for nature, creativity, and all things beautiful. Growing up, I was fascinated by flowers and the process of building something from scratch. I always felt I was destined to start my own business, but it wasn’t until later that I realized I could merge my love for flowers and creating into a career in floristry.

My journey started with the simple joy of gardening and filling my home with fresh flowers. For the past six years, not a day has gone by without blooms scattered throughout my space. That joy ignited a vision: to craft intentional, personalized designs that tell a story. Guided by that purpose, I launched Petále Haus, a full-service floral studio grounded in artistry, color theory, and sustainability.

As Petále Haus grew, I saw a need for locally sourced flowers in San Antonio, which inspired me to dive into flower farming. This step deepened my connection to the creative process while ensuring my designs remained eco-conscious and intentional.

Today, Petále Haus is more than a business—it’s a celebration of life’s most meaningful moments. It’s a woman-led, Hispanic-owned, Texas-grown venture, and I’m incredibly proud of the community we’ve built. The future is full of possibilities, and I can’t wait to see what blooms next.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building Petále Haus Floral Design has been far from smooth. Starting from the ground up, I had to navigate every aspect of the business—from securing clients and drafting contracts to creating distinctive designs and sourcing the finest flowers, all while ensuring a seamless balance between creativity and operational efficiency.

One major challenge has been sourcing flowers, knowing what’s in season, and finding the best quality while staying true to eco-friendly practices. This ultimately led me to flower farming, which brought its own hurdles like managing planting schedules, unpredictable weather, and balancing farming with running the design studio.

Another ongoing challenge is ensuring every flower variety is at its peak on event day. Each bloom has specific needs for processing, temperature, and handling, requiring meticulous planning, storage, and constant monitoring.

Though the road hasn’t been easy, these challenges have shaped Petále Haus into a business rooted in resilience, artistry, and purpose, and I’m grateful for every lesson along the way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As the Creative Director and CEO of Petále Haus Floral Design, I specialize in creating sustainable, intentional floral designs that reflect my clients’ unique stories. My journey to this career is anything but traditional. I hold degrees in Political Science and Psychology, and I spent three years working for the government, supporting refugee children across the U.S. While I was skilled at helping children and was even enrolled in a master’s/doctorate program in school psychology, I realized that I didn’t want my life to be centered around healing trauma. I wanted to immerse myself in something more vibrant and uplifting, so I left my government job to follow my passion for flowers and start my own business.
Petále Haus blends my background in psychology, which taught me to connect with and understand people, with my passion for creating beautiful, meaningful designs. I’m known for crafting floral arrangements that exceed expectations, paying close attention to every detail to ensure they truly reflect my clients’ vision. What sets me apart is my ability to combine creativity with a commitment to delivering a product that consistently exceeds clients’ expectations, along with the unique advantage of growing my own flowers. This hands-on approach allows me to offer fresh, high-quality blooms that enhance every design.
What I’m most proud of is how far we’ve come—building a business from the ground up that is now known for its vibrant, intentional designs and its dedication to sustainable practices. The opportunity to shift from a career that involved heavy emotional work to one that celebrates joy and beauty has been incredibly fulfilling, and I’m proud of the impact we’ve made in our community and in the industry.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has certainly played a part in my personal life and business, but I believe it’s more about being in the right place at the right time and being ready to seize opportunities. In my business, I’ve been fortunate to meet the right people—whether it’s a mentor offering guidance or clients placing their trust in me to bring their vision to life. However, luck alone isn’t what has driven my success. It’s the effort I put in, the choices I make, and my focus on my long-term vision that have been crucial in growing Petále Haus.

Of course, there have been moments that felt like bad luck—challenges in sourcing flowers, timing the planting of seeds just right, or navigating the hurdles of starting a business. But I’ve always chosen to view these as opportunities to learn and grow. Experience has been my best teacher, and through trial and error, I’ve learned valuable lessons that have shaped the way I run my business. Ultimately, while luck can play a role, it’s persistence, adaptability, and the determination to push forward that have truly shaped my journey.
