Life & Work with Ahteara Winn of San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ahteara Winn.

Hi Ahteara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started making music in 2019 while living in Florida, beginning with freestyle and quickly realizing this was something I wanted to fully commit to. My name is Ahteara Winn, and my artist name is Aht3ara. I was born in Virginia, but I’ve really been everywhere — the world is basically my home, not just one specific place. ✨

Since then, I’ve stayed dedicated to the journey — traveling to different parts of the world, meeting incredible people, and learning a lot through both good experiences and difficult ones. A lot of my culture, my sound, and my vibe comes from that — being shaped by different places, backgrounds, cultures, religions, lifestyles, and situations. It all came with me and became part of how I create.

Over the years, my sound has continued to evolve, and so have I. I’ve grown in creativity, in faith, and in how I move through the world and hold myself accountable. I’ve experienced highs and lows — from having financial uncertainty and not knowing where I’d be staying, to moments of stability, inspiration, and growth that reminded me why I started in the first place.

Through it all, I never lost sight of music. It’s been my constant. Every experience has shaped me, and I’m still building, still improving, and still becoming the artist I know I’m meant to be. I’m grateful for the journey so far and excited for everything still ahead.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Growing up, I moved constantly — sometimes once or twice a year. By the time I was 16, I had moved about 23 times, living all around Virginia and also spending time in different states. My mom did the best she could for us, but a lot of the time we were hotel hopping, sleeping on couches, and just figuring it out as we went. At the same time, there were also moments where things were more stable and we had support, so it was really a mix of both extremes.

Even as an adult, my journey hasn’t been linear. I had stable years where I lived in my own apartment downtown in San Antonio for about 3–4 years, but I also started traveling and building connections in places like California, and that came with its own challenges. There were times I was staying in my car, in hostels, and just making it work however I could. Financial stability wasn’t always there — there were moments where I didn’t know where I was going to eat, or I had to rely on places like Planet Fitness just to shower.

But honestly, through all of it, I learned how to adapt and keep going. I learned how to make things work no matter what, and how important it is to stay grounded and still be a good person even when life is unpredictable. That’s really what my journey has been about — resilience, growth, and continuing to push forward no matter the circumstances.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist, first and foremost. I started making music in 2019 in Florida through freestyle and have been building my sound and identity ever since. I specialize in creating music that reflects real life experiences, different cultures, and emotional honesty — my sound is shaped by constantly moving, adapting, and being exposed to different places, people, and lifestyles.

I was born in Virginia and grew up moving constantly, which made me very adaptable and gave me a broad perspective that naturally shows up in my music. I’m known for my authenticity, my storytelling, and my ability to turn real experiences — both the highs and the struggles — into art.

What I’m most proud of is my consistency. Even while working server and customer service jobs to support myself, and going through unstable moments, I never stopped creating or building my path as an artist. I’ve also started expanding into modeling and acting, building my portfolio and learning those industries as well.

What sets me apart is that I don’t just create from one perspective or one environment — my life has been very fluid, so my art reflects a mix of cultures, experiences, and resilience. Everything I’ve lived through becomes part of my work, and I’m still evolving every step of the way.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Honestly, I’m still learning and growing when it comes to formal mentorship and networking, but what has worked best for me is staying active in real-life spaces and being open to connection wherever I go.

A lot of my opportunities have come from just being consistent with my music, traveling, and meeting people naturally through experiences rather than forcing connections. I’ve learned that relationships build best when you’re genuinely focused on your craft and you’re not trying to rush the outcome.

When it comes to finding guidance or mentors, I think it’s about paying attention to people whose work you genuinely respect and not being afraid to engage respectfully, support what they do, or ask questions when the moment feels right. I also try to stay in environments where I can learn — whether that’s creative spaces, events, or working around different industries.

For me, networking works best when it’s authentic. I don’t try to “network” in a transactional way — I just focus on being consistent, improving my craft, and staying open. The right people tend to come through alignment over time.
