Life & Work with Adriana Espinoza of Seguin, Texas

Adriana Espinoza

Hi Adriana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Well, I had my first child in 2004. He was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease at his newborn screening. When I tell you I was scared, that would be an understatement. Keeping a job with him in and out of the hospital was hard. Fast forward, my sister (a cosmetologist then) took me to a hair show. I was hooked! I wanted to do what those artists were doing. I wanted to create! Naturally, I enrolled in beauty school the following week. I became a licensed cosmetologist in 2006.

I always had an interest in the makeup artistry side of cosmetology. That said, I have worked for two of the world’s well-known makeup companies. There I was able to hone my skills. There came a time when I had to step back and realize I needed to be home more with my family. I decided to take a blind leap and start doing Bridal and Quinceañera makeup and hair. Adriana Espinoza Artistry was born with the loving support of my Fiance and children. I found my niche in 2018/2019. I have always loved vintage, rockabilly, and pinup culture. I had worked with a photographer who specialized in Pinup-styled shoots, and it just skyrocketed from there. What we had was magic! Since then, my makeup and hair have been published Nationally and Internationally in the pinup community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth ride? No, not at all. My biggest obstacle would be something a little on the personal level. Early in my career, I was involved in a traumatic domestic violence incident that left me with a shattered right hand. This person not only wanted to hurt me, but he wanted to take away my purpose. Although I had to heal myself and my hand, I didn’t allow him to break me. Yes, I occasionally have flare-ups, but I use that as motivation. I will never let anything take away this fire, this passion for makeup artistry.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in anything and everything makeup artistry. I have worked on Bridal parties, Quinceañeras, Boudoir photoshoots, Pinup Photoshoots, Music videos, Dia de Los Muertos festivals the list goes on. I love what I do. The transformation of before and after. My crowning moments are when my clients look in the mirror, and I hear the “Wow, that’s me?” When you come into my studio, it’s a safe space. There will probably be 80’s rock playing, but I promise you, you’ll have a great time. You’re beautiful without makeup; I’m here to “zhuzh” you up!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Always no matter what, believe in yourself. Believe in your craft. Study it, Practice it. If you find something that truly makes you happy, keep doing it! Educate yourself. Knowledge is the key. Find what you’re good at and continue to make magic.
