Hi Sydney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Vai Models from a dream of modeling. I always wanted to model, but due to living in Texas, I never knew how to get started or how to make that dream a reality. My mom ended up moving to New York and I ended up going with her. That was when i learned the entire industry and became apart of it. I was modeling for about 2 years, and then came back to Texas to help others (Im not that tall haha). I knew that I had an advantage of learning the industry from my mom living in New York, so it was kind of a cheap and affordable way for me to live there (I didnt have to pay rent when I lived with her). I knew Texas had a lot of talent, but most aspiring models didnt know how to begin or how to start modeling. I decided to open up my own agency to help models and get them going in an industry that is really hard to break in to. We have a lot of talent here, and I want to make them known.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Haha no, not at all. It’s tough dealing with models that are about to break through to a large industry. We deal with a lot of personalities, a lot of people who want to give up and we cant let them, people who are from a small town and get thrown into a fast paced industry, etc. It is tough. We have had a few people that get booked like crazy, and then we have people who dont get booked at all and they have to keep trying (but of course, they dont understand that, so the blame falls on us haha). I love it so much, but it is tough. We work with a lot of top respected agencies around the world, and sometimes they dont like our talent, and other times they love our talent and want to meet with them. Vai is almost 1 year, so we’re still growing, but that 1 year definitely has challenges… just like other business too. Small businesses def know the struggle haha. Another challenge is telling people that their measurements need to go down. Thats hard. We try to find the best and healthiest solutions to getting them to the measurements that are required for the industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Vai Models is a modeling agency in Texas. We manage talent all across the U.S, but we focus on finding talent in Texas and taking them to the larger cities. We have manage and book jobs for high fashion models, commercial models and actors. We are one of the most elevated agencies in Texas, as we have connections and partnerships with top respected agencies such as New York Models, Wilhelmina, and Ford models. We have proved ourselves in the industry, which is super beneficial for putting the emerging fashion world in Texas on the map. We are always searching for new talent, so the more visibility that Vai gets, the more opportunities for aspiring models.
What’s next?
Our future plans are to expand our offices in all major cities. We like seeing our models in person, and we want to make sure that we have offices in every city to ensure that all models have the best agent/talent relationships and collaborations.
