Inspiring Conversations with Sean Wen of Pinch Boil House

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Wen.

Hi Sean, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We started in 2015 as a Viet-Cajun crawfish boil pop-up.

We’d drive around in Andrew’s Ford F150 and pop up at random breweries, bars, and restaurants and sell crawfish until we sold out! We did this for about 2 years before finally going into a brick & mortar — selling Southeast Asian-inspired seafood and street food. Fast forward 4.5 years later, here we are in our Alamo Heights location!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a bumpy, but extremely fulfilling ride. We made every possible mistake along the way — ranging from staffing struggles, financial struggles, and everything in between! Overall, it’s these mistakes that made us who we are today. They allowed us to realize the importance of being flexible and adaptable.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a restaurant that specializes in Southeast Asian-inspired seafood, street food & rice bowls. There really isn’t anything else in the city quite like what we do, so we are extremely proud to be a part of the burgeoning food & beverage scene in San Antonio.

I definitely feel like since we started 4.5 years ago, we have made Asian food a bit more accessible and that we have educated folks about our culture and our food along the way.

If you’ve never had one of our signature rice bowls, or our Vietnamese-inspired seafood and seafood sauces, then you got to come down to Alamo Heights and try it!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We are so proud to be a part of San Antonio’s food community, and are so grateful/thankful for everything they’ve done for us! We are just a humble little shop that can’t wait to continue to change San Antonio’s food & beverage landscape!
