Inspiring Conversations with Monica Valadez of Century 21 Scott Myers Realtors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Valadez.

Hi Monica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always believed that our paths are shaped by the places and people we love most, and for me, that place has always been San Antonio. I’m originally from here and have spent my entire life rooted in this community. From childhood through adulthood, San Antonio has been the backdrop of every chapter of my story, and it’s the reason I’m so passionate about helping others build their lives here too.

After graduating from UTSA with a degree in marketing and management, I began my career in the finance industry. It was a fast-paced world that taught me discipline, structure, and the importance of understanding people’s goals behind the numbers. Eventually, though, I made the decision to step back from the workforce to focus on raising my two sons—my most important and rewarding job of all.

When the time was right to re-enter the job market, I knew I needed something that gave me the flexibility I needed as a mom, but also allowed me to do something meaningful. I’ve always loved connecting with people and, truthfully, I’ve always loved looking at homes—so real estate naturally caught my attention.

In 2015, I took that leap and entered the real estate world, bringing with me my background in finance, customer service, and a deep understanding of San Antonio. What I found was a career that blended everything I enjoy: building relationships, guiding people through life-changing decisions, and showcasing the lifestyle and neighborhoods that make this city so special.

By 2024, I wanted to challenge myself even further—just to see if I could do it—so I decided to earn my Broker’s license. It was a personal milestone and a reminder that growth doesn’t stop when life gets busy or comfortable. We’re always capable of more.

Today, I’m expanding my reach once again, this time through American Dream TV. As a Realtor and lifestyle expert for San Antonio, I’m excited to spotlight the vibrant places, local stories, and hidden gems that make our city unique. It feels like a full-circle moment—combining my marketing background, my love for this community, and my passion for real estate into one platform where I can share the very best of San Antonio.

This journey hasn’t been linear, but every step has brought me exactly where I’m meant to be: helping people feel at home in the city I’ve loved my entire life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges has been navigating the constant shifts in the real estate market. Over the years, I’ve experienced everything from intense seller’s markets—where homes were selling in hours, multiple offers were the norm, and buyers had to make split-second decisions—to slower buyer’s markets that required a completely different level of patience, marketing strategy, and negotiation style. Each extreme brings its own pressures, and learning to pivot quickly has been essential.

Interest rate changes have also played a major role. When rates are low, the pace is fast and competitive; when they rise, buyers become more cautious and the conversations shift toward affordability, long-term planning, and creative solutions. Guiding clients through those emotional and financial transitions can be challenging, but it’s also one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

And of course, the real estate industry itself is constantly evolving; new regulations, new technologies, fluctuating inventory, economic swings. Nothing stays the same for long. I’ve had to continually adapt, learn, and stay ahead of what’s coming so I can give my clients the best possible experience.

Those challenges have definitely tested me at times, but they’ve also strengthened me. They’ve made me more resilient, more knowledgeable, and more confident in how I serve my clients—no matter what the market is doing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Century 21 Scott Myers Realtors?
I specialize in residential real estate, working with everyone from first-time homebuyers to seasoned clients who may be on their second, third, or even forever home. One of the things I love most about this business is that every client has a different story, and I take the time to really understand their needs, their concerns, and their goals. I’m very much a hand-holder in the best way—I’m present, I’m available, and I make sure my clients feel informed and comfortable with every step of the process. Buying or selling a home is a big moment in someone’s life, and I never take that responsibility lightly.

What truly sets me apart is the level of personal attention and care I bring to each transaction. I want my clients to feel supported, not rushed; empowered, not overwhelmed. Clear communication, patience, and genuine connection are at the heart of how I operate.

And I’m incredibly proud to hang my license with Century 21. It’s a global brand with a global reach, which gives my clients unmatched visibility and access. The marketing systems and tools available to me through Century 21 are invaluable—they elevate every listing and allow me to provide a higher level of service. Knowing I have that kind of powerhouse behind me allows me to focus on what I do best: guiding my clients with confidence, care, and expertise.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always quiet and very introverted. I wasn’t the loudest in the room, but I observed everything around me. Even as a kid, I had big dreams of being successful—I didn’t always know what that success would look like, but I knew I wanted to work hard and create a meaningful life for myself.

I learned early on not to take anything for granted. That mindset shaped how I approached school, relationships, and eventually my career. I was the kind of person who put in the effort, stayed focused, and kept pushing even when things weren’t easy. Looking back, those qualities—being thoughtful, driven, and grounded—are the same ones that guide me today in both my personal life and my work as a Realtor.
