Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Hall.
Hi Michelle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started in education working as a kindergarten teacher for 3 years. After completing my masters in education with a specialization in counseling, I worked as a school counselor for 3 years. After working in education, I moved over to healthcare working in a hospital setting for over 3 years. I ran the maternal wellness and youth programs, offering counseling support in units such as LD, mother baby, NICU, and pediatrics. I worked with kids, moms, and families, helping them navigate their most stressful days. While working in the hospital, I began working in a group private practice clinic on the side serving kids, adolescents, and young adults. From working in the hospital setting, I was inspired to help more families, including moms experiencing postpartum depression and anxiety, birth trauma, perinatal loss, and navigating the NICU. I grew a passion for working in the maternal setting along with working with kids. I further wanted to take my passion for sports and knowledge from being a college athlete into my practice as well. I learned how much of a game is mental, and my love for sports paved the path for me to work alongside athletes as well. All of these passions inspired me to open my own private practice, Hall of Fame Counseling PLLC, providing counseling services for kids starting at age 4, perinatal/postpartum women, and athletes. My goal was to make counseling affordable, accessible, and provide continued care once patients discharge.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting your own small business comes with it’s own set of challenges. It is difficult to navigate and learn how to run a business, especially when you don’t have a background in business! Through trial and error, I learned how to create my own website and domain, business cards, marketing platforms, budgeting, establish an office space, and much more!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and my private practice offers mental health counseling support for children starting at age 4, perinatal/postpartum women, and athletes.
I specialize in play therapy for children, helping with emotional regulation and coping skills, coping with grief and loss, anxiety, and navigating changes at home. I am credentialed in child-centered play therapy and working on becoming an RPT (registered play therapist). I am also trained in sand tray therapy, further providing a trauma-informed expressive outlet for children to process big emotions.
I also specialize in perinatal mental health. I am a certified perinatal mental health professional (PMH-C). I offer counseling support for postpartum depression/anxiety, perinatal loss, helping families navigate the NICU experience, and birth trauma. I am also trained in EMDR, a specialized, trauma-informed therapy approach to helping work through traumatic events and reduce PTSD.
Finally, I also specialize in mental sport performance with athletes. As a former college athlete, I understand the demands and pressure student athletes face and how the mental component can affect overall performance. I have studied and obtained supervision to become a certified mental performance coach (CMPC) to further provide counseling support for this population.
I believe what sets me apart from other counselors is my background and my overall approach. I have been in both educational and healthcare settings, so I have seen first hand what a lot of my clients come to counseling for. I have been in the hospital setting where mother’s encounter some of their hardest and most traumatic days, I have worked alongside families in the NICU, or with palliative care after losing a child. I have sat with a child and offered support both in schools and hospitals. I feel like my background, experience, and warm, caring approach provides me with something not many other counselors can offer. I take pride in the ability to provide the continuum of care for these families.
I am very proud of my brand. It is named after me and the love I have for the state of Texas with the bluebonnet representing my logo. I have taken into consideration the colors of maternal mental health and establishing a sense of authenticity within my brand. I take pride in having my business be as approachable, welcoming, humble, and down to Earth as possible. My goal is to make mental health care easy and accessible for my families.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters the most to me is being able to support my clients through some of their darkest, most stressful days. Being the person they can confide in and share their story with means a lot, and I want to ensure they are well taken care of and have the ability to cope and navigate their experiences in a healthy way.
