Inspiring Conversations with Michele “Mitch” Smith of Reata Ranch Realty Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele “Mitch” Smith.

Hi Michele “Mitch”, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in San Angelo and Midland, I was raised around ranching families with a deep respect for the land. Hunting, fishing, and riding horses were more than hobbies—they were a true love. I started competing in hunter-jumper disciplines and spent countless hours in the saddle in my early 20s. When another Michele showed up at the Polo fields where I trained, my coach started calling me “Mitch”—and it stuck.

I bought my first investment property at 23 and like most, was hooked. What started as a personal investment journey quickly turned into a full-time passion for real estate. After years of buying and selling for myself, I knew I could help others navigate the process with the same strategic mindset and care.

After 7 years working in the Llano area I founded Reata Ranch Realty Group opening my main office in Fredericksburg, now a trusted brokerage with 18 seasoned Land and Residential Specialists. We’ve built our business on relationships, results, and a relentless drive to serve clients with integrity and expertise.

Over the past two decades, I’ve had the honor of representing clients across Texas and beyond, many of them repeat buyers and sellers from my West Texas roots.

I offer hands-on guidance, deep market knowledge, and an unmatched network of brokers, agents, and vendors across the state.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The real estate business can be very exciting and profitable but it’s not for the faint at heart. For me, I’ve been very fortunate to have had 2 wonderful mentors. The only real struggles have been with the NAR organization and rule changes. You almost have to have a law degree to understand most of it and that’s the scary thing when you are dealing with licensed agents who have no idea what they are doing or how to read a legal document. I’ve been across the table from a few and it makes the job for brokers like myself who are seasoned, knowledgable, and professional more difficult.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Reata Ranch Realty Group?
At Reata Ranch Realty, we believe that hard work spotlights the character of people.
We don’t mind turning up our sleeves and doing what it takes to get the job done, whether
marketing your property or finding a large legacy ranch, a luxury residence, or
a starter home for your family.
I personally, specialize in Land & Ranch sales and cover several counties. I’ve sold several iconic ranch properties, the most recent being Packsaddle Mountain Ranch just outside Horseshoe Bay which was listed for $32 million.
I have Land agents but also have several agents who are well versed in Residential and Commercial property sales in the Fredericksburg, Tx area.
We have offices in Fredericksburg, Mason, and a new office opening this Fall in San Saba, to better serve our clients. It’s not unusual for our agents to travel several counties in order to find you that ideal ranch or to preview homes for days so not to waste your valuable time. This philosophy of personalized service is what makes us a top leader in the Texas Hill Country. Most of all you won’t find us quitting our search after scanning the local MLS service. That’s just not our style.
We have an impressive marketing platform but we still believe in a good Texas handshake.

How do you think about happiness?
Well, being with family most of all but when I can’t be with them, my group at Reata Ranch Realty is my second family. Being in the real estate business is not just about collecting a check. It’s about building relationships, helping people with what might be the largest investment they’ll make in their life. Best of the best is when you know both the buyer and the seller has finished the transaction and very happy! That’s a good day.
