Today we’d like to introduce you to Michal Waechter.
Michal, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in San Marcos and followed my parent’s legacy of attending Southwest Texas State University. After graduating with my Bachelors in Health Information Management, the University changed its name to Texas State University before I earned my Masters of Science in Healthcare Administration. Though SWT is in my blood, I’ve embraced Texas State as the new name. I moved to San Antonio and embarked on a 10-year career in Hospital Administration.
Starting as a Marketing Manager and promoting my way through many levels of the organization, ultimately leading the oncology service line as the Regional Director of Oncology Services for the five hospital Baptist Health System. Ownership, leadership, bureaucracy, and hierarchy changes led my heart to start a new journey in 2016. After leaving Baptist, I started a business dedicated to helping physicians optimize and grow their practices in the private sector.
Business Development is my passion and facilitating quality medical care by respected providers that exceed patient expectations is truly rewarding. Four years later, my business is thriving and my clients are like family.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Is ANY road totally smooth? The transition from corporate, for-profit healthcare and 70 hour work weeks to self-employment, unguaranteed income, and entrepreneurship was an adjustment, to say the least. As the universe would have it, I soon found out that I was pregnant with my first child.
Which only solidified my decision to create a successful business that would allow for the flexibility and autonomy that my family would need. I was blessed with a solid support system and industry relationships that served as building blocks along the way.
Learning how to navigate starting a business, forming an LLC, creating a DBA, developing a business plan, designing collateral, and drafting a proposal was full of trial and error and a little success. Gradually, it all came together to form a dynamic and growing machine.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Waechter Consulting Group?
Waechter Consulting Group is committed to providing new and established medical practices with customized business development strategies that optimize business performance and grow patient volume. We consider ourselves an outsourced resource for the business development function of practice administration.
We take care of our physicians so that they can take care of their patients. We specialize in business development but work with clients in non-healthcare related industries as well. The majority of our clients come to us from industry relationships or word-of-mouth referrals, so we do very little external advertising. Our first website and social media pages started this year!
What’s next?
We are in a solid-state of growth and are looking forward to many changes in 2022. We are currently a team of three, myself as Founder and CEO, Michelle DeStefano as Director of Business Development and Abby Hinojosa as the Marketing Specialist.
We look forward to adding a Physician Relations Manager soon. We are actively accepting new clients and are eagerly entering the non-healthcare arena.
