Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Gomez.
Marisa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My path into real estate wasn’t exactly planned. I actually spent several years in the corporate world and fully expected to retire there. Real estate had always interested me, but I never saw it as something I’d actually do. Then life did what it does sometimes—it shifted my course and gave me the chance to try something new.
When I got into real estate, I immediately noticed a pattern. A lot of people were looking for homes that would allow their aging parents to move in with them and their kids. It kept coming up, so I decided to dig a little deeper. I looked up the stats and was shocked to find that multigenerational living in the U.S. had increased by 271% in just the last decade—and Texas was leading that trend. I didn’t even know what “multigenerational living” meant before I started researching it!
But once I learned more, it all made sense and I was hooked. There are actually a ton of data-backed benefits to families living this way – financial savings, shared caregiving responsibilities, stronger family bonds, emotional support, and even longer life expectancy for older adults. That really hit home for me, especially since I come from a very close-knit family myself.
In fact, I live in a kind of modern-day family compound. My family and I are in one house, my sister and her family live a few houses up the street, and our mom is in a home just behind us. We’re together almost every day – helping each other out, sharing meals, and just doing life together. It’s been a huge blessing, and I know a lot of other families are craving that kind of support system too.
That’s when I realized I wanted to do more than just help people buy and sell homes – I wanted to help them create this kind of lifestyle if it’s something they want. Now, I focus a lot of my work on helping families navigate multigenerational living. I’ve started hosting interactive seminars where I walk people through what this lifestyle looks like, the benefits, how to find homes that really work for it, and things to keep in mind for the future.
It’s been such a meaningful shift for me. What started as a career change turned into a calling, and I’m so grateful for that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road. Transitioning out of the corporate world after several years was a big shift.
I wrestle with imposter syndrome more often than I’d like to admit. But I just keep reminding myself that I bring something unique to the table – and that it’s okay to still be learning.
What helps ground me is my focus on multigenerational living. It gives me purpose and direction. When I start doubting myself, I think about the families I’m helping – how they’re building stronger, more supportive lives together – and that reminds me why I’m doing this. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about making a difference in a way that feels real and meaningful.
We’ve been impressed with Marisa Gomez, Realtor – Multigenerational Living Specialist, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed real estate agent based here in San Antonio, and I specialize in helping families navigate the unique needs of multigenerational living. That includes finding homes that allow multiple generations to live comfortably together – but also selling or renting out homes that no longer suit a family’s lifestyle as their needs change over time.
This is something that’s personal for me. I live this lifestyle myself – my home is just down the street from my sister’s, and our mom lives just behind us. We’re together almost every day, supporting each other in one way or another. That very personal experience continues to guide my business.
What really sets my business apart is the purpose behind it. This isn’t just a specialty – it’s something I truly believe in. I help families think beyond the traditional home search. We talk about how they live, who they live with, and how to build a home life that works long-term – not just what looks good in a listing.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the educational side of what I do. I offer interactive seminars that walk families through what multigenerational living is, why it works, and how to make it sustainable long-term. We also talk about future ownership considerations – things like estate planning and how to handle property ownership in a way that supports long-term family goals. And yes, we do get real about the fact that living with extended family isn’t always sunshine and rainbows!
I’ve built a strong network of professionals – lenders, builders, and attorneys – who also specialize in this space. We work as a team to make sure families are supported from every angle. Whether it’s financing a home, building a casita or addition, or making sure legal and estate matters are covered, we’re all aligned on helping clients thrive in their chosen lifestyle.
At the end of the day, I want people to know that there is a way to live close to the ones you love without sacrificing comfort or independence. My job is to help you make that happen – with the right home, the right plan, and the right support team behind you.
