Inspiring Conversations with Lydia Giron of Renew Health Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydia Giron

Hi Lydia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My healthcare career began at the age of 16 when I started as a pharmacy technician, a role that ultimately grew into a 10-year experience. It was during that time that I discovered a true passion for health and wellness, which shaped my professional path. From there, I pursued formal education and training, starting with becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and advancing through an Associate Degree in Nursing (RN), a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN, RN), and a Master’s Degree in Nursing Leadership and Management (MSN, RN). Today, I am proud to be a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and the owner of Renew Health Center, where I have the privilege of leading a practice focused on comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has certainly been challenging, but I am deeply grateful for every experience along the way, as each has shaped me into the healthcare provider, mother, and leader I am today. At the age of 16, I had the incredible blessing of welcoming my first child, which postponed my college plans. From that point, life became a balancing act—juggling the roles of wife, mother, full-time student, and full-time employee. These experiences, though demanding, have been instrumental in shaping not only the mother I am to my family but also the leader I’ve become in my community and the dedicated healthcare provider I am today. Each step has fueled my passion for making a meaningful impact in both my family’s lives and the lives of my patients.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
As a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), my role is all about providing comprehensive healthcare to individuals and families at every stage of life—whether it’s a newborn, someone in their golden years, or anyone in between. As a nurse practitioner, we wear many hats, balancing the practice of medicine with a host of other responsibilities.

First, I act as a primary care provider. Much like a doctor, I diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions—from acute issues like infections to chronic conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure. But it’s more than just treating illnesses. A big part of what I do is focused on prevention and health promotion. I take a holistic approach, looking at my patients as whole people, not just focusing on their physical symptoms but considering their emotional, social, and mental well-being too.

Education is also a key part of my role. I spend a lot of time helping patients understand their health conditions, medications, and ways they can improve their well-being through lifestyle changes. Whether it’s counseling on preventive measures like immunizations or just helping them make small adjustments to their daily habits, it’s all about empowering them to take control of their health.

Even though nurse practitioners often work independently, I collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals, from physicians to specialists, to ensure my patients get the best care possible. And one of the things I love most about being an FNP is that I get to work with patients of all ages—sometimes entire families. That continuity allows me to build long-term relationships, which is something really special.

At Renew Health Center, we prioritize patient-centered care. We offer same-day and next-day appointments and provide direct primary care for patients who might not have private insurance. Our team is led by experienced practitioners who take a holistic and compassionate approach to care. We’re also a bilingual health center, which is essential in serving our diverse community here in San Antonio and surrounding areas. Whether through in-person visits or telehealth, we strive to make healthcare accessible to everyone.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the inclusive environment we’ve built at Renew Health Center. We believe healthcare should be accessible to everyone, regardless of income, language, sexual orientation, gender identity, transportation barriers, or health literacy. Our mission is to provide personalized care that focuses on the whole person, and we aim to do it with sincerity, compassion, and dignity in every interaction.

So, if you’re reading this and looking for a healthcare provider who genuinely cares about your well-being, I’d love for you to consider Renew Health Center. We’re here to walk with you on your health journey and provide an unmatched level of care and compassion.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Remember, the road ahead won’t always be clear or easy, but your goals can and will become a reality if you hold on to three important truths. First, stay strong in your faith—it will guide you through the toughest moments. Second, approach every interaction with compassion; how you treat others matters just as much as what you achieve. And finally, treat everyone like family—with kindness, respect, and care. These principles will not only help you reach your goals but also create a lasting impact on those around you.
