Inspiring Conversations with Kevin Edgerton of 18A Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Edgerton.

Hi Kevin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Kevin Edgerton, and I am a retired Special Forces Detachment Commander and Special Forces Communication Sergeant that served over 26 years in the US Army. I worked for the US Air Force at Lackland AFB, Special Warfare Human Performance Squadron as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach providing cutting edge fitness protocols for all future/ hopeful Pararescue (PJ), Combat Control (CCT), Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) and Special Reconnaissance (SR) for 7 years. I recently retired from that position to fully commit myself to 18A Fitness. I am married to Cordelia Edgerton for 17 years, she is originally from St. Lucia and have 3 wonderful kids, Khrystian (19), Isaiah (16), Cyriana (14).

I am also concurrently the owner of 18A Fitness where I develop future warriors. 18A Fitness isn’t just personal training, we make warriors. As the go-to organization for Green Berets, RANGERS, NAVY SEALS, and Special Warfare Airmen in their pursuit of peak physical and mental performance, we’re as good as it gets. Armed with the immense, real-world experience where I incorporate proper mobility, breathing, heart rate variability, strength, stamina, cardiovascular, and mental training, our services exceed the capabilities of the average gym or personal training service. We prepare men and women to endure the rigors of Special Operations training, or other high-performance environments, with detailed, focused, all-inclusive plans that can’t be found anywhere else.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It took about 4 years for 18A Fitness to really take off. In December 2020, I was introduced to a fellow Green Beret named Sean “Buck” Rogers, who owns and operates The FNG Academy. Presently he has over 100k followers on his YouTube channel He is also an author of Rising Above, where he talks about the struggles of growing up with addict parents. Buck started posting support on his IG account about 18A Fitness which in turn started a really good relationship. Beside Buck support, another Podcast called OnesReady run by 3 Air Force Special Operation Operators have also been a huge support of 18A Fitness. The biggest struggle was getting the word out about 18A Fitness and utilizing a platform that makes my job easier. I use a training platform called Trainerize. They house all my workout videos, programs, and payment. For 3 years I use to send excel spreadsheets to clients every week.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As long as I can remember I have mentally and physically challenged myself. Training for my life’s calling as both a Special Operator and Strength and Conditional Coach began at the age of five by putting 110% into all my athletic pursuits: baseball, football, wrestling, soccer—virtually any athletic activity I could get my hands on. When I joined the U.S. Army, it was no different. I set the highest expectations for my time there and was determined to exceed them. My first goal was to become a U.S. Army Special Forces Soldier, also known as a Green Beret, then become an Officer and leader in the same organization.

Within decades of investing in my ambitions, I was awarded my dream and positions far greater and more fulfilling than I could have hoped for. In 1998, I began earning credentials in the fitness industry, obtained my Personal Trainer Certification, and later developed a CrossFit Program for the 10th Special Forces Group. Later, programs were built for 1st Special Forces Group in Okinawa, and my athletes went on to win the Asian CrossFit Games. This was only the beginning of my passion for training. Over the years this also led to completion of a range of certifications such as Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Olympic Weight Lifting Coach, Power Lifting Coach, and a range of other critical technical skills. While retiring as a Special Forces Officer, I completed a Master’s in Health & Sports Science and accepted an opportunity as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Special Warfare Human Performance Squadron. Within this position, I have had a direct role in training personnel before, during, and after selection and qualification training supporting their goal to become Air Force Special Operators in the following fields: Pararescue (PJ), Combat Control (CCT), Tactical Air Control Party (TACP), and Special Operation Weather Technicians (SOWT). I have also concurrently served as a GORUCK cadre and coach, and personally trained numerous GORUCK participants in meeting and exceeding their personal goals with GORUCK.

I now utilize my credential as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Licensed Massage Therapist, Fascial Stretch Therapy Specialist, KinStretch Specialist, and numerous other prestigious fitness certifications to develop top-tier training programs for professional athletes, aspiring Special Operators, and a range of other specialized clients.

I have coached a CrossFit team that won CrossFit Asia in 2011 and competed at the CF Games, I have train a 3x and a 2x Brazilian JuJuistu NOGI World Champion, UFC Contender Series Participant, Bellator fighter and numerous other Smaller venue MMA fighters. My program consists of a daily mobility and breathing protocol that needs to be done every damm day!!!!!!!!!!! It take 20-25mins to do which I have instructional videos and follow along videos. Then on M, W, & F you do strength and Conditioning with an Energy System Development (depends on the equipment you have access to) Tuesday and Thursday are running day followed by an hour long KinStretch (yoga on crack), and Saturday are your Rucking. Sunday is God’s day of rest. If you would like for me to train you there are a couple of things I need from you. 1-open mind 2-Self Discipline 3-Commitments 4- Dedicated time of 1 1/2 hour 6 days a week 5-A Goal!!!

Each program is delivered through my Custom App where you log all reps, sets, weight, time and distances. Within the App you can ask direct questions about Selection or training. I am here to help you get selected!

Go to my website at www.18afitness.com, click on Special Forces, then scroll down click on Book Now, it will take you to the Trainerize site where you pay. Scroll down to SFAS and click buy.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Marketing is the key to a successful business. Without the help of others especially Sean “Buck” Rogers, OnesReady Podcast and the Jedburgh Podcast I wouldn’t be where I am today. It takes like-minded individuals who want to help the best get selected into their respective branch of Special Operation.
