Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Hyde.
Hi Kelly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have loved food from an early age. Even as a young mom in my 20’s, I noticed to some degree how our food choices were tied to mental health. I strove every day to bring happiness to my family with a healthy breakfast, wholesome snacks during the day, and a balanced evening meal. Did food alone make happy, healthy kids and a perfect marriage? Not even close! I attended culinary school, worked in restaurants, served as a personal chef, and had well-fed, healthy family and customers. But something was missing. I went to family therapy, read about trauma-informed mental wellness, and ultimately gravitated to a functional medicine graduate program that incorporated clinical nutrition. I finished my master’s degree and internship to be a certified nutrition specialist. I opened my own practice in New Braunfels and love to help people feel their best!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not smooth at all! I was an overwhelmed mom and wife for what felt like forever. I didn’t know the importance of taking care of myself so that I could be my best version for my family and friends. This became exhausting and it has been a journey to find my passion on nutrition and helping others through their hurdles in life.
Also, my husband is a heart surgeon so i stayed home with the kids and had very limited time to purse my passions until I found a way to prioritize my interests and health also.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Hive Wellness?
Hive Wellness strives to discover and make sense of ever-changing patterns in the chaos of your life. From a distance, what seems like a random ailment, health disturbance, or life-changing news about our future can often be tracked down by a holistic approach to our wellness starting with childhood, traumatic life events, which impact our approaches to food, exercise, and mindfulness. The beehive looks messy, but is intricately organized. We have to pause, spend time observing, and with self-compassion brave the journey of adapting to life’s changing circumstances.
I work one-on-one with clients of all ages to help empower them to meet their goals and feel their best. I don’t create generic protocols because everyone is unique and therefore thrives on different foods, supplements, levels of accountability, and has a unique past and relationship with food and their body
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
They might not know that I am addicted to running! I love it! It is my form of daily cheap therapy. I process life on runs. I solve problems on run. I grieve on runs. I remember what I have to be grateful for on runs.
