Inspiring Conversations with Joshua Patino of The NOMAD Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Patino.

Hi Joshua, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The NOMAD Shop first came to life when I had the idea to make unique pocket tees. I started off selling to a few friends and family until I eventually began doing pop-ups with just a foldable table and canopy. After about a year of doing pop-ups that way and offering a variety of merchandise, I bought a vintage 77 VW Bus and used that as my setup. About 2 years in and multiple mechanical issues with the VW I decided to sell it and purchase a high roof Ford Transit Van that is now known as The NOMAD Shop which is spacious enough for people to walk inside and shop comfortably. The shop on wheels allows me to embrace my passion to travel and enjoy the adventures of van life while creating products and art that leave a positive imprint.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not smooth as everything was so new to me and I had to learn and adapt along the way. Everything from creating the website, building the inside of the van, and just gaining a following were all struggles starting up…but consistency helped overcome those unavoidable obstacles.

As you know, we’re big fans of The NOMAD Shop. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The NOMAD Shop is a van that was converted into a shop which allows people to walk in. I think that on its own sets us apart from other local businesses….also, the interior and lighting is all solar powered! We specialize in screenprinting, embroidery, art, woodwork, rug tufting and everything in between.

It’s truly a one stop shop.

Not only do we create everything ourselves, but we’ve also helped brand other businesses with our screenprinting, embroidery and button making services.

Aside from the shopping aspect, we also started a YouTube series called THE NOMAD MUSIC SESSIONS which local artists perform a song(s) in the van.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as having all necessities in life while doing what makes you happy.
