Today we’d like to introduce you to Jewels Allen.
Jewels, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story really began after a personal loss. When my mom passed away from COVID complications in 2020, all her belongings sat just as they were left when she left to the hospital – from her hairbrush to her new clothes she had just bought hanging in their closet with tags. I helped my dad go through her closet after a few years when we had managed to begin our healing journey. She was a dentist with classic style—beautiful pieces, many still brand new or barely worn. It hit me how heartbreaking it was to see those clothes sit unused, and how meaningful it could be to give them new life. That experience planted the seed for what eventually became Your Closet Curated TX.
At first, I just wanted to help others through that same process—letting go with intention. I started helping friends resell items they no longer wore, and I saw how much people needed a hands-on, trustworthy service. So I launched my resale concierge business, where I handle everything from pickup and photos to listing, packaging, and shipping.
Beyond that, I’m passionate about sustainability. With the massive amount of textile waste in the world, I believe secondhand fashion is one of the most impactful ways we can make a difference. I work with clients to resell mid-to-high-end and vintage/classic pieces that deserve a second life—keeping quality garments out of landfills and getting them into the hands of people who will love them.
This business has been a way to blend purpose, practicality, and creativity. I’m a single mom running this from home, building it from scratch. And while it’s still growing, I’m proud of what it’s become—especially because it started with something so close to my heart.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road—but I think that’s true for most people trying to build something meaningful from scratch.
One of the biggest challenges has been time and energy. I’m a single mom of two, juggling parenting, running a household, and launching a business all at once. I’ve also dealt with health issues, including a major surgery recently, while trying to stay consistent and present for my kids and my clients.
There’s also been a steep learning curve. I didn’t come from a background in tech, business, or marketing, so I had to teach myself everything—from website building to bookkeeping to shipping logistics. At times, it’s felt overwhelming, especially when things move slower than you hoped or you’re not getting immediate traction.
But every challenge has pushed me to get more creative and more focused. I’ve learned to embrace imperfect progress, set boundaries, and build systems that actually work for my life—not just some ideal version of it. And honestly, the setbacks have helped me stay connected to why I started this in the first place: to help others, to honor my mom’s legacy, and to build something sustainable for my family.
We’ve been impressed with Your Closet Curated TX, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Your Closet Curated TX is a San Antonio-based resale concierge service. I help clients turn their gently used, vintage, or mid-to-high-end clothing and accessories into income—without the stress of doing it themselves. I handle everything from item approval and pickups to photography, listings, packaging, and shipping. Clients can drop off items, schedule a pickup, or send them in with a prepaid mailer. I take care of the rest.
What sets my brand apart is the level of care and intention I bring to each client and each item. This isn’t about dumping clothes into a resale bin—it’s about making the process personal, efficient, and actually beautiful. I offer curated wrapping for giftable pieces, branded packaging, and a boutique-style feel that makes secondhand feel special. I also pre-approve every item to make sure it has strong resale potential—so clients earn more and buyers get quality pieces they love.
My business is rooted in family, legacy, and a deep respect for quality. My grandmother, Julia, was a first-generation American and a self-taught seamstress who built her own business out of her garage here in SA. She worked with clients one-on-one, altering garments, creating special pieces, and pouring care into every detail. She even had larger contracts with stores like Saks and Dillards. Watching her growing up showed me what it looked like to take pride in your work and to serve your community with skill and heart. That early exposure shaped my love of fashion, vintage pieces, quality over quantity and the power of entrepreneurship.
Later, after my mother passed away and I helped my dad go through her closet – that emotional experience reminded me of how much stories live in our clothing, and how meaningful it can be to let go with care and purpose.
I’m especially proud that this business stands for both sustainability and sentiment. The fashion industry creates a staggering amount of textile waste every year. I believe that secondhand can be just as stylish—and far more impactful—than buying new. I help busy people resell responsibly, and give beautiful pieces a second life in someone else’s closet.
Whether someone is cleaning out their wardrobe, downsizing after a major life change, or just trying to live with less, Your Closet Curated TX offers a hands-on, human approach to resale. It’s personal to me, and I’m proud to carry forward the spirit of the women who shaped me.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor isn’t always a straight path—especially when you’re building something unique or doing it solo. What’s worked best for me has been being willing to ask questions and start conversations, even when things still felt messy or in progress. Some of my most meaningful connections have come from simply being open about what I’m working on—whether that’s with other moms, small business owners, or women I meet at local events.
I’ve learned that mentorship doesn’t always have to be formal. Sometimes it’s a quick conversation that shifts your mindset. Other times it’s finding someone whose journey inspires you and learning from how they navigate challenges. I’ve found a lot of strength in surrounding myself with other women who are building something while also balancing life, parenting, and everything in between.
Recently, I had the opportunity to be interviewed for the Working Moms of San Antonio podcast, which was such a full-circle moment. I’ve followed their work for a while and truly admire what they’re doing for women in our city. I’m excited to be joining their community more actively soon—it’s a space where real conversations happen, and I’m so grateful for the connection.
At the end of the day, the best networking I’ve done has come from genuine connection, not self-promotion. Being honest about your journey, showing up even when it’s not polished, and leading with curiosity—that’s where the magic happens.
