Inspiring Conversations with Jeison Bequer of HempGorilla Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeison Bequer.

Hi Jeison, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello, my name is Jeison Bequer. I was born in Cuba and have had the opportunity to live in France, Florida, and now Texas. I’ve been fortunate to experience different parts of the world, but it wasn’t until I moved to Dodge City, Kansas that I had my first real experience with cannabis.

At first, I misunderstood the plant — I judged it without knowing anything about its benefits. As a young Cuban kid growing up around a culture that didn’t talk much about cannabis, it was eye-opening to see how deeply it was appreciated in Kansas, especially being just a few hours away from Colorado.

When I later moved back to live with my mother, she didn’t approve of cannabis use, so I would ride my bike to the beach whenever I wanted to enjoy it. Over time, I realized how much it helped me — with eating, sleeping, and focusing. I’ve always lived with ADHD, and cannabis became a natural way for me to calm my thoughts and concentrate on one task at a time.

At 18, I moved to Texas and began working in framing, where I learned the value of hard work, discipline, and teamwork. I owe a lot to the people who mentored me — Lalo, Erick, and E.E., who pushed me mentally and physically to become a leader, and Kyle Dechert, who taught me valuable handyman skills.

After eight years in framing and construction, I decided to open my own handyman business. During that time, I suffered a great loss — the passing of my best friend, Buho (RIP). That moment changed me deeply and motivated me to pursue a new direction in life.

I discovered that the hemp shop I used to buy from had a location in Universal City and originated from New Braunfels. Something inside me clicked — I thought, “If they can do it, why can’t I?” That’s how HempGorilla Texas was born.

I started with the idea of doing deliveries only, but soon I wanted to create a physical shop. The first space I found was small and run-down, but that didn’t matter — I had the skills and determination to make it work. After about six months online, I was able to open my first store inside Honey Brow, where my wife Elena, my biggest supporter, also runs her nail studio. Without her, none of this would have been possible.

Eventually, I moved into a new location at 863 IH-35 S, Suite K, New Braunfels, Texas, where I continue to grow the business. Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with many amazing hemp and cannabis enthusiasts, growers, and local entrepreneurs. Small Shop But We Got Love/Flowers To Share!!

Today, I’m happily married with three kids, three dogs, three chickens, and a parakeet. I also want to thank my father-in-law, Eddie, who has been an incredible help running the shop while I work my day job. When I get off work, I head straight to the shop — this is truly a family effort, supported by my wife, father-in-law, and mother-in-law.

Every day, I’m grateful for the journey — from Cuba to Texas — and for the opportunity to share the healing power of this plant with my community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest challenge I faced was finding a location for my shop. Some property owners still hold a lot of stigma toward this culture, so I consider myself very fortunate to have found a space at all.
