Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivy Wood.
Hi Ivy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
People ask me all the time—how did I end up in pest control? I tell them, it’s not just about bugs… it’s about people. And for Blessed Pest Control, it all started with a calling to serve and putting Jesus Christ first.
I never imagined I’d be running a pest control company. My background is in hospitality and community service—I’ve always loved connecting with people, making them feel cared for, and paying attention to the little details that others miss.
I graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management and held the position of Community Service Director for an organization on campus. People may not remember what you say, but they will remember how you made them feel!
After my husband Ashton finished his time in the military, he got into pest control. He’d come home with stories—frustrated clients, bad service, and companies more focused on the paycheck than the people. I could see it wearing on him. One day, we looked at each other and said, “Why don’t we do it differently?”
So we did!
We started Blessed Pest Control with nothing but a few tools, a whole lot of faith, and a heart to serve our community the right way. Ashton is the backbone—he handles the tough jobs and leads with the same discipline and honor he applied in the military. I handle the people side—making sure our clients feel seen, heard, and taken care of like family. We both pray without ceasing for our customers and find joy in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
It wasn’t easy in the beginning. With no set clientele, no brand name, and nothing but a vision and a loan from my father; we stepped out on faith. We trusted that God would bless the work if we stayed honest and hardworking, giving Him the glory and being ambassadors for Christ.
Now, Blessed Pest Control is growing faster than we ever imagined. We serve homeowners, business owners, and property managers across San Antonio and surrounding counties. We’ve handled everything from raccoons to German roaches—and every time, we bring the same heart and hustle we had on day one.
For us, it’s not just pest control—it’s a ministry, a family mission, and a promise that where blessings start… pests depart!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Not at all—but we wouldn’t trade it for anything! We will tell stories to our children one day of our humble beginnings and how God is faithful.
When my husband Ashton and I started Blessed Pest Control, we didn’t have big shot investors, a large team, or even steady clients. What did we have? Faith that God would provide, a strong work ethic, and a shared vision. To make ends meet while trying to build the business, we both wore a lot of hats—some of them quite literally.
We drove horse-drawn carriages through downtown San Antonio, giving tours and rides, while dreaming about a future where our business would stand on its own. On other nights, we pulled overnight shifts at Whataburger—flipping burgers, mopping floors, and reminding ourselves why we were doing this in the first place. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was honest work, and it gave us the flexibility to take pest control calls during the day and slowly grow our client base.
There were tough seasons. We sold both our personal vehicles to afford one work truck. There were times we couldn’t afford groceries and we leaned on prayer, our church family, and even a few kind-hearted strangers who believed in us. We’ve had jobs where we were paid in installments, or not at all—but we kept showing up with a smile and doing our best. Because we weren’t just building a business—we were building a reputation.
The community kept us going. A friend from church would recommend us to someone else. A property manager would give us a chance when they could’ve hired a bigger name. Those small wins added up—and they reminded us that we were never in this alone. Between my husband and I, neither of us have any blood relatives nearby, but we do have a lot of brothers and sisters in Christ!
Looking back, every overnight shift and every carriage ride was part of the blessing. It shaped our story, and it keeps us grounded today. We’ve grown, yes—but we’re still that same husband and wife team who showed up, worked hard, and trusted God with the rest.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Blessed Pest Control?
At Blessed Pest Control, we do more than just remove pests—we protect homes, pray for families, and provide a peace of mind. We’re a women owned, veteran operated, faith-driven company in San Antonio, founded on the belief that pest control should be done with excellence, integrity, and heart.
Our business started from a desire to do things differently. We saw how people were being overcharged or under-served by companies that treated them like just another number. So, we built Blessed Pest Control to be the opposite—personal, professional, and purposeful. Every home we step into, we treat like it’s our own. Every customer becomes part of the Blessed Pest Control family.
At the center of it all? Jesus Christ. He’s our foundation, and we run our business to reflect the same love and care He shows us—every day, in every interaction. You can learn more about who we are and what we do at www.BlessedPestControl.com.
We specialize in structural pest control—which means we focus on keeping pests out of and off of your property in the most thorough and strategic ways possible. We protect the structure itself—inside and out—from everything that creeps, crawls, flies, or chews.
From general pests like ants, spiders, and roaches to more advanced issues like termites, rodents, wildlife or bed bug infestations— we take a high-tech, solutions-based approach.
What are we known for? Our attention to detail! Our clients constantly tell us that we find things other companies miss. And that’s not by accident—we use drones to inspect roofs, thermal cameras to track hidden movement, and specialized exclusion tools to seal up entry points. Whether it’s a home, office, warehouse, or church—we don’t leave until the problem is controlled.
What sets us apart from others? Three words: Faith. Innovation. Integrity.
We’re bold in the marketplace about our relationship with Jesus Christ. He is the foundation of our family and our business, and we believe our work is a form of service—every home, every customer interaction, every solution.
Second, we’re not your average pest control company. We took the feedback from people’s bad experiences with pest control companies and did the opposite. For example, we don’t lock you into a contract just to force you to pay your way out of it. We reach out to schedule your service every time vs. just showing up unannounced the month you’re due. We won’t sell you a service you don’t need just to upsell. Plus, you’ll never reach a chat bot when contacting us.
Lastly, we lead with heart. We follow up. We educate. We ask our customers how we can pray for them. And we care far beyond the invoice.
We’re proud that our brand reflects who we really are—a team that loves people, loves what we do, and isn’t afraid to be bold in our faith. Blessed Pest Control won the “2024 NextDoor Neighborhood Fave” award and I am a recipient of the “National Pest Management Association (NPMA) 2025 Impact Award for Women in Pest Management” celebrating women not only in America, but worldwide, in pest management who drive the industry forward.
We don’t hide behind generic branding. We stand behind slogans like “Spray and Pray”, “Where blessings start and pests depart” and “Not even pests can hide from Judgment Day” because they capture both our mission and our mindset: we’re here to serve with excellence and stand firm in our beliefs.
What we’re most proud of is when people see our name or meet our team, they immediately feel the difference—faith-based, family-oriented, and all-in on delivering the best pest control experience possible.
We want your readers to know that they’re not just hiring another pest control company—they’re gaining a team that cares deeply about doing things right.
We offer a wide range of services, including but not limited to:

We thank our veterans with a 10% military discount and we support our community by donating 10% back to local churches and nonprofits.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5–10 years, the pest control industry is set to go through some pretty significant shifts. Here are the biggest trends and changes on the horizon which we already have began integrating into our business approach:
1. Tech-Driven Pest Control (Smart Pest Management)
• Trend: More companies are integrating IoT devices, remote monitoring systems, and data-driven pest detection.
• Why it matters: This allows for real-time monitoring, especially in commercial properties. Bait stations and traps are becoming “smart,” sending alerts when triggered or low on bait.
2. Eco-Friendly and Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
• Trend: There’s growing demand for non-toxic, environmentally responsible solutions.
• Why it matters: Customers (especially families and businesses with pets/kids) want effective treatments without heavy chemical usage. This can be done by combining physical exclusion, sanitation, habitat modification, and minimal chemical use to control for pests.
3. Climate Change = New Pest Pressures
• Trend: Warmer temps and shifting seasons are expanding pest ranges—mosquitoes, termites, ants, and rodents are becoming year-round problems in more areas.
• Why it matters: You’ll likely be seeing pest seasons starting earlier and lasting longer—especially in Texas.
4. Growth in Wildlife and Attic Remediation Services
• Trend: Urban sprawl = more wildlife issues. Raccoons, squirrels, birds, and bats are becoming common invaders.
• Why it matters: These jobs are more complex—with many pest control companies not offering exclusions or attic remediation. Think “total home defense,” not just bugs.
5. Rise in Digital Service Models
• Trend: Customers want convenience—automatic billing, paperless invoices, online customer portals, etc.
• Why it matters: It boosts client retention by appeasing to fast-paced lifestyles.
6. Labor and Licensing Pressures
• Trend: Finding and keeping skilled techs is becoming harder, and regulatory requirements may tighten.
• Why it matters: Pest control companies will need to focus more on training, meaningful work, company culture, and competitive pay/benefits to stay ahead.
