Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Zapata
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started pet sitting at 18 when my best friend asked me to take care of her two senior dogs while they went out of town. Their names were Goldie and Beaux and they truly started my pet-sitting career. I did this for whatever cash her mom decided to pay me and that was that. I continued to pet sit for several years for a few people here and there but never for much money and I never really considered it a career.
Around the age of 22, I met a lovely woman named Harley and we hit it off. So much so that a year later, we decided to go into business together and create our own pet care service business, what is now Lovely Critters Pet Care Services. I work on the social media for the business and Harley helps care for the pets with me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think that we both have our mental health struggles. I struggle with feeling capable enough to run a whole business. There’s a lot to consider when running a business and sometimes it can get overwhelming. Harley struggles with motivation and deciding where to put her energy into.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Lovely Critters Pet Care Services ?
Lovely Critters Pet Care Services is made up of Harley Nebula and Faith Zapata. We offer house sitting, pet boarding, pet daycare, drop-in visits, and walks. We are known for treating your pets like their our own. We often describe ourselves as your pet’s cool, excentric LGBTQIA+ aunties. We will take them out on walks and adventures while they are boarding with us and they will never be bored. When we drop in on your pet they get 30-60 minutes of our undivided attention. We call ourselves Lovely Critters Pet Care Services because we do not only take care of dogs but we are also experienced with cats, birds, and reptiles and would love to take care of more exotic pets in the future.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Patience is essential when you work with animals. They don’t communicate in the same way as humans do so you have to take the time to learn their language. Each pet has its own little quirks and we take the time to get to know your pet and learn those quirks.
