Today we’d like to introduce you to Erick Reyes.
Hi Erick, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey in massage therapy in 2017 in Corpus Christi, Texas, during a break from completing my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and applying for graduate school. At the time, massage therapy was something I viewed as a side hustle while pursuing my long-term academic goals. One evening, while massaging my mom’s neck as we sat watching TV in the living room, she casually mentioned that I should have gone to massage therapy school as she experienced the pain relief it was providing. That simple comment planted a seed—and the very next day, I signed up.
What started as a way to earn extra income during graduate school quickly became a calling. After becoming licensed, I later went on to complete my Master’s in Business Administration, with massage therapy supporting me throughout that season. Along the way, I began teaching as a massage therapy instructor, where I discovered a passion for helping students succeed.
While tutoring one of my students one-on-one and driving long distances to do so, I realized there had to be a more effective way to support her. That realization led me to create educational videos, and I posted my first YouTube video that same week. That single decision grew into a platform that now helps massage therapy students across the country prepare for and pass their licensing exams, while also supporting practicing therapists in their careers and businesses.
Massage therapy has since allowed me to expand my work into becoming a continuing education provider, offering business mentorship, and eventually building my own medical massage therapy company through contracts with multiple home health companies across Texas. As my client load grew, I brought on additional therapists—including my first student, the same one I initially tutored and helped pass her massage therapy licensing exam—bringing the journey full circle.
In early 2025, I expanded my work to San Antonio to grow the business, not realizing how quickly it would feel like home. Recently, I was invited to be a guest speaker at a local massage therapy school to speak on the licensing exam and my professional journey—an opportunity I didn’t seek out, but one that came looking for me. It’s been a powerful reminder that when you stay aligned with your purpose, the right opportunities often find you.
San Antonio has been incredibly welcoming and supportive, and I’m grateful to be building the next chapter of my journey here.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road has definitely not been smooth—and I don’t think I would have wanted it to be. If it had been, I probably would have fallen asleep at the wheel. It was the bumps, detours, and moments of uncertainty that kept me alert and forced me to reassess where I was headed. One of my lowest points came while working in an environment where growth had stalled. Despite years of effort and promises of advancement, I reached a point where there was no longer room to grow—professionally, creatively, or financially.
That season was challenging because I wasn’t afraid of hard work; I was struggling with stagnation. Interestingly, at my lowest point, I remember standing in my kitchen and writing on a whiteboard, “I don’t understand this, Lord. I need your help.” That very same week, I secured my first contract in medical massage therapy with a home health company—but there were no guarantees. I didn’t know if I would enjoy the work or if it would be sustainable long-term. Still, I took the leap and gave my notice, stepping into a season filled with uncertainty and urgency.
That sense of desperation became a catalyst. With very little time and a lot on the line, I poured my energy into creating my first continuing education course, writing relentlessly and building it in less than a month while waiting for my medical massage work to ramp up. That course eventually became a source of passive income and marked a major turning point in my career. It taught me that setbacks often act like a catapult—pulling you back just enough to launch you forward. Some of my most meaningful growth has come from moments when I had no choice but to trust myself and keep moving.
Looking back, what felt like pressure at the time was actually preparation. Those obstacles didn’t stop me—they clarified my path and pushed me into work that was more aligned, sustainable, and impactful.
As you know, we’re big fans of Well-Known Reyes LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Well-Known Reyes is a service-driven company that contracts with home health companies across Texas. My work centers on providing medical massage and aquatic therapy to individuals with disabilities, including cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, quadriplegia, and other complex conditions. I work directly with clients while also managing the administrative and operational side of the business, and I have a team of dedicated therapists throughout San Antonio and the surrounding areas. Building a team has allowed our reach to be wider and our impact greater—because this work is bigger than what one person can do alone.
In addition to clinical work, Well-Known Reyes is an education-focused massage therapy business offering educational content and continuing education courses both in Texas and nationwide. I’m known in the massage therapy community for my educational efforts through my YouTube channel, where I help students prepare for and pass their licensing exams. I also provide continuing education courses to support licensed therapists in maintaining and advancing their credentials. Education and accessibility have always been central to my mission—for both clients receiving care and therapists building sustainable, long-term careers.
What sets my work apart is consistency and commitment. I don’t see this work as something you step away from when it gets difficult. I believe deeply in showing up—especially for populations that rely on continuity of care. When I first expanded my work to San Antonio, one of my earliest clients had previously lost services due to inconsistent attendance from a former therapist. I made a personal commitment to reliability, and I’ve maintained that consistency ever since. For me, showing up isn’t about comparison—it’s about responsibility.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the origin of the name Well-Known Reyes. As a child, my family began calling me that after I opened a fortune cookie that said I would one day be “well-known.” Years later, when I was searching for a business name, it came back to me naturally. It felt less like a branding decision and more like something that had already been planted in me. The name represents who I am—when I hear it or see it, it reminds me to stand confidently in my purpose and to be visible in service of something meaningful.
What I want readers to know most is that this work matters. Individuals with medical and developmental disabilities deserve consistent, compassionate care, and no single therapist can meet that need alone. I often tell the therapists I work with and the students I teach: I can’t massage everyone—I need your hands, your skills, and your commitment too. Well-Known Reyes exists to serve, to educate, and to remind others that when we keep showing up together, real and lasting impact is possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I do feel very lucky when I look back, but not in the traditional sense. What stands out to me most is how things consistently aligned—even when they didn’t go the way I thought I wanted them to at the time. There were doors I hoped would open that stayed firmly shut, and in those moments, it felt disappointing or confusing. Looking back now, I can see that many of those closed doors were actually protecting me from paths that wouldn’t have led to fulfillment.
Earlier in my career, I believed success would come from stepping into opportunities exactly as they were presented. Over time, I learned that some opportunities may look secure or certain but are meant to be temporary rather than permanent. Even the paths that didn’t fully materialize played an important role in my growth, teaching me skills, discipline, and perspective I still rely on today. What once felt like missed chances ultimately created space for something better aligned—work that allowed me to build with intention, integrity, and autonomy.
I’ve come to see luck less as coincidence and more as clarity over time. When one door stayed closed, another opened—often in ways I couldn’t have imagined or planned. In hindsight, the things I didn’t get were just as important as the ones I did. Those moments shaped my direction and helped me build a business and life that truly fit who I am. In many ways, I feel lucky because I’m already doing what was placed inside me—something I can trace back to being a kid who loved pretending to teach an imaginary class. Looking at my life now, it’s clear that this was part of me all along.
