Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Alcala.
Hi Christopher, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve wanted to work independently and do something non-traditional since I graduated high school. I always tried to figure out how to get there or what I wanted to do. I went to college and graduated. I started bartending in 2006, and to make a long story short, I started working for an event management group in 2016. We sold things like table-scapes, linens, event decor, and flowers. I had never thought about event bartending or even knew it was a thing. My boss then told me I should consider getting into it since I had experience in bartending and events. Once it caught my eye, the rest was history.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like many small business owners, I started with no money in my pocket. Any money I made, I invested back into the business to offer my potential clients something more substantial as a service. Something I could be proud to provide people with. I worked a steady job with a regular income to carry the financial weight of myself and the business. In a way, it has made me a better entrepreneur. Everything I do is done with great purpose and dedication. I go into every job I do knowing I had to work twice as hard just to be there. This is why giving every client my best every time means so much to me.
I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bar Hoppers?
My business is called Bar Hoppers. We are a mobile bartending service for events. Whether it be an office space, a wedding venue, or a barn in the middle of nowhere, we will come out to your private event and take care of all your bartending needs; when it comes to service, I take great pride in providing something affordable, reliable, friendly, and aesthetically pleasing, I love wowing people and to hear them say that they are impressed. I love being creative and having the ability to build bar stations on location and unique cocktails that are conversation starters. Let’s face it. We all have been there where we purchased an item or service that we could have been more impressed by. We walk away with that sense of, “Eh. I could have done with or without that.” Or “I should have spent my money on something else.” I never want people to walk away with that feeling. My main focus is to ensure that they leave by the end of the event with a sense of, “Wow! That was worth my money.” And if they can remember me and pass along my info through word of mouth, I know I did my job.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
College was great, but the University of TikTok and YouTube have been enough to teach you the latest trends in cocktail building. As for experience, I gain a little more each day I wake up, and I am grateful for that.
