Tonya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, the journey to this point in time was not one that I could have imagined. Entrepreneurship was not something that was on my radar until we were nearing the end of the homeschooling journey for our children. I was blessed to be able to stay at home and educate my children for the entirety of their school-age years. With that being said, they were my primary focus. Before having children, I pursued a degree in philosophy and had aspirations of remaining in higher education with the goal of one day serving as the president of a university. When you think about it, I really did get to serve in that capacity with my own children in our own “institute” of higher learning!
We completed their homeschooling right at the start of the COVID pandemic. It was then that I began to look at entrepreneurship seriously. The internet was where we all turned to during that time, and I was exposed to several valuable resources that helped me to unlock some of the gifts within that were set aside during the many years of homeschooling. I rediscovered or perhaps remembered that talking one-on-one with people is a strength. Or better said, listening is my superpower. People feel the peace that I carry when we meet, and it makes them feel comfortable enough to share.
What brings me the greatest joy is being able to sit with people, hear their stories, their problems, and their dreams, and then to ask questions that, 9 out of 10 times, introduce them to a different and usually higher perspective. Encouraging people into their purpose is a big part of how I am wired, and I believe that is why bookkeeping is a brilliant space for me to be in. Yes, business owners need clean books and organized financials, but they also need encouragement and gentle reminders that they are doing a good thing by growing their business and contributing positively to their community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes, I would say my path has been smooth. Detours are to be expected but that doesn’t mean it’s a struggle.

I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for my husband Mark. He has been my support, my advocate, my cheerleader for over 31 years. He has ALWAYS believed in me.
There have been many mentors, coaches and communities that have helped shape who I am today. The first one I would like to shout out is Qiana Nicole and the KMI community. That group of women was instrumental in pulling out the key components that were necessary for me to grow in confidence and move forward with other projects that led me to the place I am now. I will be forever grateful to those women.
Pedro Adao was the first person who helped flip the switch within for me to understand that entrepreneurship is a gift we get to give to others.
