Hi Tera, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Tera Williams — Founder. Healer. Survivor.
My name is Tera Williams, known in my community as Teravive Aesthetics, and I am the Founder and Owner of The Hive Spa & Beauty Studio. At my core, I am a healer.
I am a Licensed Vocational Nurse with 17 years of experience in hospice and holistic nursing, and for seven years I owned and operated along side my husband, hospice and home care agencies throughout South Texas. Caring for people physically, emotionally, and spiritually has always been my calling. Long before entrepreneurship, my purpose was rooted in service.
In February of 2021, my life changed forever.
At just 37 years old, I was diagnosed with Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans (DFSP), a rare and aggressive form of melanoma-related cancer that had been growing in my scalp tissue I was faced with fear but I refused to accept that my life story would end there.
With God by my side and my faith unshaken, I made a decision: I would fight. I would trust. I would believe in purpose beyond pain.
That fight required multiple surgeries to remove tumors, followed by reconstructive surgery. When the physical battle was over, a new one began the recovery. The aftermath left me with a scar covering 40% of my scalp, an area where my hair would never grow again.
For the first time in my life, I struggled to recognize the woman staring back at me in the mirror.
As a woman who had always poured confidence into others, I now had to learn how to love myself again in a new body, with a new reflection, and a deeper understanding of vulnerability. Depression and sadness knocked at my door, but I refused to let them take residence.
It was in healing, not survival, that I found my true “why.”
God did not give me this battle to break me He gave it to position me.
My recovery opened my eyes to the power of self-care, holistic healing, and inner restoration. I realized that beauty is not about perfection it is about confidence, compassion, and reclaiming your crown after life tries to take it.
That revelation became the foundation of The Hive Spa & Beauty Studio a space built not just for skincare and beauty, but for healing, empowerment, and community. A place where women are reminded that they are still whole, still worthy, and still powerful no matter what they’ve been through.
Today, my mission is bigger than business. I lead with empathy, faith, and purpose. I create spaces where women feel seen, supported, and restored mind, body, and spirit.
My story is proof that sometimes the very thing meant to break you becomes the reason you rise and help others rise with you.
Today, I am intentionally building this next chapter alongside my daughter, Marcera Williams, a licensed esthetician who brings her own powerful story to the brand. Marcera has battled chronic eczema covering over 70% of her body, a journey that deeply shaped her understanding of skin health, sensitivity, and self-confidence. Together, they are redefining the skincare industry to be more than just skin deep blending clinical knowledge, holistic healing, and lived experience into every service they offer.
Beyond serving clients, The Hive Spa & Beauty Studio is also a launchpad for like-minded estheticians and beauty professionals who are ready to build their own brands within a supportive, collaborative environment. Tera’s vision extends beyond personal success she is creating a community where women are empowered to heal, grow, and lead, both professionally and personally
The Hive Spa & Beauty Studio, LLC was born in January 2024, opening its first storefront with three treatment rooms and a bold vision rooted in healing and purpose. Today, it has bloomed into a ten-treatment-room space, home to ten wellness practitioners serving the community with intention, integrity, and care. What began as a fight for survival has evolved into a multi-generational legacy one built on faith, resilience, and the belief that when women are given the space to heal and build, they create something far greater than themselves.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Opening a spa was one of the most challenging and transformative experiences of my life. While many people see the beauty, the calm, and the finished space, what they don’t see are the long nights, the financial risk, the uncertainty, and the emotional weight of building something from the ground up. I had to navigate licensing, inspections, build-outs, staffing, branding, and business systems often while still healing, still learning, and still showing up as a leader.
There were moments when it felt overwhelming moments when I questioned if I was doing too much or carrying too much. As a business owner, the responsibility doesn’t stop at yourself; it extends to your team, your clients, and the vision you’ve promised to protect. Opening a spa required me to grow not just as an entrepreneur, but as a woman, a mother, and a leader.
Yet, the reward has been far greater than the struggle.
Every time I walk into The Hive and see women healing, building, and thriving clients reclaiming their confidence and estheticians stepping into ownership of their craft I am reminded why I started. The spa is not just a business; it’s a living, breathing community. Watching my daughter grow alongside me, witnessing practitioners launch their brands under one roof, and seeing a space once imagined become a place that impacts lives daily makes every challenge worth it.

The Hive Spa & Beauty Studio, LLC is a holistic beauty and wellness collective rooted in healing, confidence, and community. The Hive was created to bridge the gap between clinical care, holistic wellness, and beauty that goes deeper than the surface.
We specialize in results driven skincare, advanced treatments, holistic facials, scalp therapy, Japanese Headspa, Body Waxing, problematic skin treatments, Intimate care and restorative beauty services, while also serving as a home for wellness practitioners and estheticians building their own brands under one supportive roof. We are known for our intentional approach treating the person as a whole, not just their skin.

Our foundation was built through lived experience from healthcare and hospice care to personal healing journeys with cancer and chronic skin conditions. We have created an environment where clients feel seen and restored, and where estheticians and wellness professionals are empowered to grow, collaborate, and step into leadership without competition. We intentionally foster community over comparison.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The skincare and wellness industry is at a pivotal moment of evolution. Over the next 5 to 10 years, I see it transitioning from a surface level, transactional model to one that is deeply rooted in holistic wellness, personalized care, and community empowerment.
Clients are no longer just looking for quick fixes they want solutions that honor their physical skin health and their emotional wellbeing. That means advanced skincare treatments will continue to merge with holistic modalities, wellness protocols, and individualized regimens that consider stress, lifestyle, diet, and overall mental health. We will see a stronger integration of functional skincare where treatments are backed by science, customized by experts, and aligned with clients’ unique needs.
Inclusivity and accessibility will also be major shifts. People want to feel seen regardless of their age, skin condition, background, or identity. This shift means the industry must expand beyond traditional beauty standards to focus on restoration, confidence, and long term health.
Another significant trend will be the rise of entrepreneurial and community centric spa models. Instead of corporations dominating the market, we’ll see more collective spaces where seasoned practitioners and new professionals collaborate, grow, and build their brands. The Hive Spa & Beauty Studio is already embracing this by creating a launchpad for estheticians and wellness practitioners offering them a platform to thrive while preserving their creative freedom and professional identity.

Looking specifically at South Texas, I believe the next decade will see more centralized wellness hubs places where beauty, healing, and community intersect. Our region is rich in culture, resilience, and heart centered entrepreneurship, and there is a growing demand for spaces that offer confidence building experiences, not just services. Our vision is to expand to multiple locations including The Rio Grande Valley, San Marcos and Austin.
