Hidden Gems: Meet Rita Salinas of Icy Glow Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rita Salinas

Hi Rita, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I could remember, I’ve always loved beauty.

As a baby, my mother dressed me up in the cutest outfits and until now I still do the same for myself.

As a young girl, I recall my mother getting herself dolled up for a night out and how she would carefully sculpt her lips with lip liner and roll her hair onto some hot rollers. I would admire her perseverance with her maintenance routine.

As a pre-teen, I remember, my cousins asking me to curl their hair, or do their makeup, or outline their eyebrows. I would admire my aunt and how she always experimented with her makeup with bright and bold colors.

I would notice everyone’s beauty, I would think in my head, “wow, she would look amazing with bolder lashes, or her eyebrows need some TLC which could help her feel great again”. But I learned the hard way that people don’t like hearing criticism on their appearance. That was just the Virgo in me trying to make the lives of those closest to me better. Haha.

It wasn’t until I reached my early 20s when I began to realize that I actually had a passion for beauty when I decided to experiment with my own hair, makeup, and skincare. I thought that it was time that I poured into myself.

Because of this, I learned that beauty is in the eye of the beholder; anything can be beautiful.

One day I just decided to pursue what makes me happy, because deep down I knew that I was capable of so much more. I had the ideas, the drive, the knowledge, and the passion, all I had to do was start.

So I did. I began at Boss Lady Beauty Academy in November 2024 and have not looked back since. I’m set to graduate this summer from the esthetics program.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d be lying if I said that it’s been gravy so far. But that’s far from the truth. The biggest obstacle is just money and not having more of it to fully fund my business. However, I am a firm believer that this is all happening to teach me something such as to have better spending habits, which are getting better so there’s the progress.
Aside from that, it’s just me and my dream that I’ve turned into a reality. I persisted regardless of the naysayers or the struggles.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Icy Glow Beauty?
I an esthetician and I own Icy Glow Beauty. At the moment, I am just learning as much as I can. My specialties are brow lamination/wax and tinting, lash lift and tinting, and facials treatments. I am currently looking for models to expand my portfolio and if anyone is interested please send me a direct message on instagram at @icyglowbeauty. At the moment, anyone can book with me via @icyglowbeauty for a reduced rate with my school, Boss Lady Beauty Academy. The first 8 clients to book with me will receive half off their first service.

I created my brand name and aesthetic just by simply tuning into my creative side. From the color scheme to the font used to the name , it took me a couple of months to come to a final design. It’s my baby.
I really wanted to appeal to both genders , because like I said before, there is beauty everywhere and men deserve to have some TLC.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was when my mom let my aunt and I stay home from school. We got up early like normal and my mom told us, you’re staying home from school and watching a movie with me. I remember that morning it was freezing outside and I think that’s why she didn’t want to take us to school. Ah, gotta love her.

It was the best day ever. My mom made us breakfast tacos and we watched Sweet Home Alabama with Reese Whiterspoon.

I cherish that memory a lot because it’s a reminder, that no matter how busy your life gets, you should always do something special for yourself no matter the size of the gesture.
