Hidden Gems: Meet Renee Ambrose of Ready Set Shine!

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Ambrose.

Hi Renee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my business to create a better life for my daughter and support moms like me—proving family and career don’t have to compete.
I was a single mom to my 2-year-old daughter, who has faced serious medical challenges since birth, including seizures and autoimmune encephalitis. When she was 16 months old, our circumstances changed, and I became her sole caregiver.
I relocated to Texas and found a well-paying remote job that helped keep us afloat, but the reality was overwhelming. Between constant daycare illnesses, doctor appointments, and a job that only cared about sales numbers, I was stretched thin. Even working from home, trying to care for a sick toddler while being on calls was nearly impossible.
One moment changed everything. I took my daughter to the doctor during a lunch break, and she had one of her worst seizures on the exam table—convulsing, vomiting, her lips turning blue. I called my boss in tears to say I wouldn’t be back that day.
The next day, I received a written warning.
Not long after, my daughter spent 14 days in the ICU with autoimmune encephalitis—her brain “on fire,” as doctors described it. During that time, my job never asked how she was doing. They only asked for proof she was in the ICU to possibly keep my position.
That was the moment I knew I couldn’t live like this anymore.
I didn’t want my daughter growing up thinking this was normal. I knew I had to build something different—not just for us, but for other moms facing the same impossible balance.
So I focused on my daughter and began planning my business.
Today, I own a cleaning company built for moms. I hire moms, pay them well, and create flexible schedules that actually support their lives. They don’t miss their children’s birthdays, they can take time off without fear, and they’re not expected to work nights, weekends, or holidays.
At my company, family comes first—always.
I started Ready Set Shine to create change, even in a small way. The name comes from my daughter’s favorite phrase, “Ready, set, go!” She is my inspiration, and I hope to be hers one day.
