Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Crandall.
Hi Mike, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Wallys Watersports and Boat Storage/Crandall’s Ski and Wakeboard School
Owner Mike Crandall:
About age 10 I learned to water ski in New Mexico at Elephant Butte and Navaho Lakes and snow ski at age 4 at Sandia Peak and Sante Fe, we moved to Dallas where I waterskied on various area lakes including Lake Texoma. I started working for the well-known Ken White Ski School near Dallas and was part of the Metroplex Ski Club. Then I started competition and practicing freestyle jump. During that time, I built numerous water ski jumps around the United States including Cypress Gardens jumps, some of the jumps held national and world records. Then a professional show skier, boat driver, and superjet stunt rider at SeaWorld San Antonio where I met my wife who also performed there, I skied with waterski show clubs including Ski Bees of lake McQueeney and Medina Aqua Skiers at Medina Lake. Then started my own Ski School in 1989 near San Antonio on Medina Lake in Mico, Texas and continued show skiing professionally, became the 1995 SCR freestyle jump champion. The water ski and wakeboard school are still in operation during the summer. During winter I am the snow ski and snowboard school Director for Wolf Creek Ski Area and have been working there for 20 years during winter season. In addition to a variety of water ski lessons, we offer pro shop, kayak / paddle board rental, and covered boat storage units. We are currently running out of the new Sunset Resort at Medina Lake in the beautiful Hill Country, a short drive from other must visit destinations like Kerrville and Fredericksburg. Come see us at 200 CR 2620 Mico, Texas 78056
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Medina Lake has a very small watershed, drought cycles are impactful. Proper water management, conservation and long-term planning are vital here in south central Texas.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Wallys Watersports / Crandall’s Ski & Wakeboard School offers professional lessons for all types of water skiing. We have a well-established set of progressions from beginner to pro. The pro shop has waterskis, wakeboards, tubes, ropes, vest, and marine accessories.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I learned to snow ski about age 4 and water ski at about 10 years old & haven’t stopped since!
