Hidden Gems: Meet Michael Hoffman of Guardian Medical Transportation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Hoffman Jr.

Hi Michael, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
U.S. Army Veteran with two tours to Afghanistan honorably discharged from the state of Texas and moved to my home state of Hawaii. There I was to become a Vice President of two companies my father owns, with my wife Morgan at my side. These family-owned companies were a mechanic shop and a handicapped patient transportation company: Taking people to and from their medical appointments. Operating at a high level in the same field is where I gained the experience and knowledge that I have today.

My wife and I started a family to which we now have an almost 3-year-old daughter as well as a late son who was diagnosed with trisomy 13 (a genetic mutation in the 13th chromosome). He was born December 10th, 2020, and later passed December 19th, 2020 after spending a beautiful family day at the beach and experiencing the ocean breeze on his unknowingly last day. With my wife originally being from Texas, and the COVID-19 pandemic affecting my father’s companies, we decided that it was in our best interest to move back to Texas.

With the vast knowledge gained throughout the years, my wife and I decided to start our own company. Guardian Medical Transportation! We wanted to make sure our customers knew themselves or their loved ones were going to be well taken care of, safely and professionally, thus the name Guardian came to be!

Taking care of everyone we’re able, is our passion, commitment, and purpose. Regardless of their situation, our highly trained staff are able to accommodate. Services include but are not limited to wheelchair, ambulatory, bariatric, door-to-door, and long distances. We love the San Antonio area and it has been great serving our community. Go Spurs!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle was the decision to take the risk and uproot our family to start a new life. The decision ultimately was a great one at that. With family support, motivation, and hard work, we have made this process very smooth.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We transport patients whether it be a wheelchair, ambulatory, bariatric, door to door and long distances to and from their medical appointments as well as leisurely activities. We accommodate everything within our means so they shouldn’t hesitate to reach out and ask!

We take pride in making sure each and everyone that rides with us is treated like family! With safety being the priority, comfortability and smooth transportation follow. We maintain a high level of professionalism and punctuality so they know they are in great hands.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My wife, Morgan, for always pushing me and motivating me to take that next step to another level. For supporting every decision I make. My father, Michael Hoffman, and sister, Sara Bellon, for providing me the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge in this field of transportation.
My in-laws, Gail, Mike, Diane, and Mark for supporting our journey and providing us with the time and space we needed to make this dream happen!
