The Heart Behind the Shine: My Story The Foundation of Responsibility
My journey didn’t start with a business plan; it started in a tiny town south of San Antonio with a population of less than 2,000. Raised by my grandmother, a dedicated RN, I learned the value of a clean home early. By age 11, I was teaching myself to manage the household—from doing dishes, and laundry to cooking fideo—just to lift the burden off my grandmother after her long shifts. I learned then that a clean space isn’t just a luxury; it’s a way to care for the people you love.
The Resilience of a Mother
Years later, while working for a small cleaning company, I dreamt of one day owning a business myself and booking these clients. That dream was put on hold when I became pregnant and my son was born with Spina Bifida. For years, my life was defined by 24/7 care, surgeries, and hospital stays. When his health finally stabilized, I returned to work, this time as a hotel housekeeper, which quickly landed me in a supervisor position. The labor was grueling and the pay was low, but it reignited my fire. I realized that if I could manage my son’s complex medical needs, I could certainly manage my own business.
From One Mop to a Five-Star Team
I started with nothing but a mop, a broom, and a single weekly client. I invested every spare cent back into my dream until I could finally leave the hotel behind. Today, Lala’s Luxury Cleaning has grown into a professional, team-based model. We don’t just “clean”—we focus on health-centric sanitization and building long-term relationships with our clients and neighbors in San Antonio and the surrounding areas.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a ‘scenic route’ with plenty of roadblocks. In the early days, I was juggling a full-time job while trying to build this business on the side. I’ll never forget the exhaustion of going door-to-door and flyering car windshields in shopping centers, only to have my phone stay completely silent. Looking back, those moments where I felt like I was shouting into a void were actually when I was building the most resilience. I learned that the ‘hustle’ isn’t always glamorous—it’s often just showing up when nobody is watching.”

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
“My favorite childhood memory is centered around my late father, whom we lost in 2018. He raised us on a steady diet of Tejano music—107.5 was the only station we ever played. I can still see it like it was yesterday: my dad walking through the door on a Friday afternoon with a massive, ear-to-ear smile, telling us to ‘get your shoes on!’ We’d pile into his truck, and it truly didn’t matter where we were headed as long as we were with him. I can still hear him singing along to the music as we cruised the dirt roads of our small town. Those simple moments—the dust kicking up behind us and the sound of his voice—taught me everything I know about joy and presence. I carry that same spirit of ‘showing up’ into my business every single day.”
